New iOS update 13 - can’t delete “trash” Folder

I just Updated to iOS 13.1.2. When I go To my trash folder in my email and want to delete all the trash, there is no “Delete” button when I click “Select all.”

When I flick “Edit” and then click on each email in the trash individually, my options along the bottom are “Move” “Mark” or “Delete”. The problem is that i have 400+ emails in my trash folder and don’t want to have to click on each one individually.

If I click “Edit” and then “Select All,” my options across the bottom are “Move” “Mark” or “Archive”. The “Delete” button doesn’t show up when I “Select All”. He Delete option is only there if I click On each email individually.

What is the issue??

thank you!

If your email account is a Gmail account, follow these steps:

  • Go into Settings / Passwords & Accounts / Gmail account
  • Tap on the account (e.g. myname@gmail.com)
  • Tap on Advanced
  • Under Move Discarded Messages Into, tap on Deleted Mailbox
  • Tap on Account at the top left of screen
  • Tap on Done
  • Tap on Accounts
  • Close Settings
  • Close the Mail app if it was open
  • Reopen the Mail app and go to any of your Mailboxes, click Edit and then Select All and you should see at the bottom - Mark, Move, Trash (or Delete)

It's important to close out of Settings and the Mail app for the changes to take affect

Easy solution to deleting all gmail trash. Secret is to stop focusing on gmail and focus on All Trash.

Open your Email icon on each device...iPad or iPhone ....so you see a list for all your accounts.

Tap EDIT at top right which brings up options for want you want to see in the very top general Mail box. Select ALL TRASH.

Instead of trying to empty your Gmail Trash bin...go instead to this ALL TRASH bin and use our old method of Select All. Delete button shows up at bottom. Select.

Messaging:

Why is it that when I wish to text a contact for which I have a smartphone# and email address in the contact info that messaging defaults to an email address? Who the heck texts to an email address? How can I fix this. Happened after 13 was installed and the recent fixes have not addressed it. What am I doing incorrectly?

I heard the same answer from someone a few months ago. The person wrote back a few weeks ago saying yes the steps work as as outlined allowed them to delete items in both “Junk” and “Trash” folders. In weeks between the person stewed on the process, finally realizing a step was skipped or mistyped.

Hint: before I tried I copied/printed the steps to paper, then followed the outline step by step exactly as written. It worked, much to my initial skepticism. I, too, missed a step the first try. I had five email accounts and 2000 emails; I had to make it works.
