New iOS update 13 - can’t delete “trash” Folder

I just Updated to iOS 13.1.2. When I go To my trash folder in my email and want to delete all the trash, there is no “Delete” button when I click “Select all.”

When I flick “Edit” and then click on each email in the trash individually, my options along the bottom are “Move” “Mark” or “Delete”. The problem is that i have 400+ emails in my trash folder and don’t want to have to click on each one individually.

If I click “Edit” and then “Select All,” my options across the bottom are “Move” “Mark” or “Archive”. The “Delete” button doesn’t show up when I “Select All”. He Delete option is only there if I click On each email individually.

What is the issue??

thank you!

If your email account is a Gmail account, follow these steps:

  • Go into Settings / Passwords & Accounts / Gmail account
  • Tap on the account (e.g. myname@gmail.com)
  • Tap on Advanced
  • Under Move Discarded Messages Into, tap on Deleted Mailbox
  • Tap on Account at the top left of screen
  • Tap on Done
  • Tap on Accounts
  • Close Settings
  • Close the Mail app if it was open
  • Reopen the Mail app and go to any of your Mailboxes, click Edit and then Select All and you should see at the bottom - Mark, Move, Trash (or Delete)

It's important to close out of Settings and the Mail app for the changes to take affect

This is the solution for sure. Would be nice if folks would let us know when upgrading on issues like this as well as the new cumbersome issues in messaging.

Like, how many times do you TEXT to an email address and why do all messages previously sent with a "name" selected to test to come up as possible send to candidate? When wanting to text I want it to default to a smartphone # not an email address. And when I delete msgs I do not want to see them for 30 days. Give me a 0 days option please.

Hello! I couldn't find an "Advance" tab under settings for my Google email account either; possibly because I have an iPhone 5SE. However, when I open my email folder, in the upper right corner, there is a "Modify" tab. When I clicked on it, a list of possible commands came up, including "Delete all trash". The "delete" may be a trash symbol. I clicked it and it created a separate folder above my Gmail folder. When I open this folder is contains every thing in my trash bin, and it allows me to delete the entire trash bin at once; just like I used to before the update. I hope that this helps.

New question: prior to the latest update my saved emails defaulted to the last box I had moved specific senders to. I.e. : Bank of America inbox mail would move to a folder I set up as BoA. Now I have to scroll down and find each folder. It’s just one more step this update has created that is so unnecessary. If I don’t want specific BoA mail to move to that folder, I would “then” select a different one. Why was this feature changed and will it be added back in on the next update? Also, mail I move to spam just keeps coming to my in box. Prior to the update, if a specific sender was moved to spam, subsequent mail from a hat sender would always go straight to spam. This update was really a mess for me! Thanks!

Thank you so much! That solved my problem. I’m so thankful they finally allowed you to do a select all and delete function for your inbox, I had over 40,000 emails before that because I hated selecting and deleting one at a time. Now with that new update I was depressed to see they basically went back to that and I couldn’t delete the trash all at once. Your my hero!!!

I don’t really see what that has to do with the email bin.

But often, when my keyboard is lagging, it is because I have a bluetooth loudspeaker or similar attached.

If you shut down all your apps, and reboot your device, and still have the problem, you should report it as a problem in a separate thread - or check if others have reported that problem.

But Appel will probably just tell you to take a backup of your device, and reinstall the OS from scratch, and first if you still have the problem then, they’ll try to dig deeper into the case.
