macOS Catalina & Samsung C48x printer not working

If you installed both the Mojave print and scan drivers from Dec. 2018, and the Samsung Easy Wireless set up from Feb. 2019, did you also Reset the Print System, so the device can actually use the driver updates? Just because the installer might be 64-bit, it is no guarantee that these drivers are also 64-bit, or in fact, that they are even fully compatible with Catalina.

Since Samsung sold their printer business to HP, it will be up to HP to issue new Catalina compatible print and scan drivers — if in fact, the above drivers are not compatible with Catalina, and HP chooses to continue support for this device.

There is no GutenPrint supported drivers for the Samsung Xpress SL-C480W multi-function device either.

My samsung printer drive works when you turn off Macintosh Security:

sudo spctl --master-diable

However, I'm not sure this is safe to leave this turned off. If anyone knows a way around this please let me know.

Just reset the print system, and choose AIrPrint. That will allow you to print without Samsung software and drivers. That leaves you without a scanning solution unless you choose the paid, non-subscription, 64-bit VueScan.

I use AirPrint on another SamSung laser, and have not experienced this issue. It may be the PDF too. I suggest that you open that PDF separately in the free Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, and use the print file tool (printer icon) from its toolbar. If the PDF prints correctly, then it can be attributed to Preview not digesting parts of that PDF. If the problem remains with Acrobat Reader DC, it tends to point to the AirPrint implementation, but could still be a corrupted PDF.

Download the 64-bit VueScan application which supports the Samsung SL-C48x devices without the need for Samsung drivers. This is not free-ware, but you can certain try it and see if it works for you.

This I had done before as well. It still the same. Confused symbols on ten fifteen pages instead one normal page... The only way to print it is to take screenshot from preview and print that screenshot. Which is much less quality. It concerns only attachment of emails, not pages created in Macos. This is so annoying...

But not perfectly.

I downloaded Adobe Acrobat and now it can print pages which before could not. I downloaded to my Macbook and my girlfriend's Macbook too (we both have Macbook Pro 2018). I have not any problems any more (will see), she still has the problems. She tried to print some PDF file - first attempt not successful, second attemt of the same file successful (no reason why). Then she tried to print another PDF file by Adobe and unsuccessful again.

Right-click/control-click on that PDF email attachment, and open in Preview, where you can print normally, or choose to save it to disk and open and print from Preview in that manner.

Hi, I have printer Samsung C480W too.

I removed the old drivers, because it does not work with Catalina. Now I just can see, HP removed all the drivers to this printer too :-(

I don't know what to do now.

But I have an other problem, which I met before as well.

Some attachment in email, like an invoice in PDF format, it cannot print. It just prints these symbols instead the text.

Should I change something or what do I do wrong?

Font subsets (just those used in the PDF) are embedded, so it would not matter if the fonts are installed on macOS or not for a PDF. But word processing documents use font references (unless deliberately embedded in a Word document), so the fonts and the particular font face must be installed on macOS for that font reference to work properly.

Its incredible, you buy 4k USD computer, 300 USD Printer, yet it just waisted around 100 pages of paper with those weird symbols.

And most importantly 2 hours of my time waister trying to fix the issue, and money lost by not being able to print the right paper for a client at the right time. Is apple os samsung is responsible for the issue ?
