mail slow to update in iOS 13

I have a brand new iPhone 11 Pro. It is updated to the latest iOS 13 update. I will get notifications and badges for mail saying that I have new mail but when I go into the mail app there is nothing there. It can take 5-8 seconds for the new mail to show up or I have to manually refresh it to get the new mail to show up.

This only started happening after updating to iOS 13 which I did on an iPhone Xs before updating to the 11 Pro and it was doing the same thing on the Xs.

This is really annoying and a time suck. If I see I have new mail, I want to read it right away not wait for it to download. If I get the notification, it should have downloaded in the background first. This is 2019 after all.

OK so right after I posted my last post it started to act up after I clicked on the bottom left icon to view unread messages only. After that m, email acted up and started to freeze. After talking to AppleCare on the phone for about an hour trying to troubleshoot they had me delete my accounts again, turn off iCloud mail, then delete the Mail application on my phone, and lastly resetting the phone by turning it off. I waited a few seconds turned the phone back on, reinstalled the Mail application, turned iCloud back on, and re-added my Gmail account. All seems to be working very smoothly at the moment. Sounds like alot but not so bad when you do it one step at a time.

Thanks Scott...as you can see, your experience mirrors my own with only one min over 10 days difference.

not that it matters but I think you will likely find that your mail app will download new mail for 1-5 mins after you background it. After that, my strong hypothesis is that 13.x shuts it down so hard it doesn’t wake up for notifications.

ironic that Microsoft’s mail app works infinitely better on Apple hardware than apple’s does.

Just upgraded my iPad Pro from the 2017 version and I am experiencing slow email loads as well as crashed when searching for email senders and subjects. The app freezes, acts like it’s “thinking” a bit and then crashes.

This is a bug in BOTH the latest iOS and iPadOS builds.

Please issue an update as this is critical functionality and moving to an alternate email solution isn’t desirable for many of us.

Thanks.

My problem is slightly bigger. No matter which client I use (my main Mail app is Spark but I also use iOS Mail), I always have to wait minutes to hours for new mail to show up.

The only solution I know is using the dedicated GMail App for my GMail account which of course doesn’t solve anything for my work account that also takes ages to show new mail.

These problems persist on my iPhone 11 and also on my iPad Pro 2017 which is kind of irritating. It all started without me being aware of changes I made to my routine that could be connected to these issues.

I already tried resetting the network settings, removing and re-adding the accounts, force restart and whatnot....all to no avail.

Came here for this. Mail has been impossibly slow since iOS13. Please fix this Apple.

To get new mail to show up have to force shut the app closed and then reopen. And then still have to wait 30 seconds to load mail, if I’m lucky. It’s like the mail app has become a game of chance. Will new mail load if I refresh and refresh again? Or should I quit app. Start over. Wait. Refresh? Feeling lucky?! Never had a single mail issue for 10 years prior to ios13.

Apple are you listening? Thx.

I have similar sluggish problem plus extra. I have a new iPhone 11. I use extra mailboxes (SaneBox). I notice that any new mail does not show up until I go into each of the mailboxes. With previous iPhones, any new mail would be fetched every 30 minutes, or more often I would manually fetch the mail and any new mail would show up. Very odd as the settings on the new iPhone are exactly the same.
