Keyboard and touchpad lost after sleep

Occasionally, not always, after the Catalina upgrade, whenever my macbook sleeps, I lose the keyboard and the touchpad.

I must use my fingerprint to log in and once I do, I have no touchpad nor keyboard. I need to reboot everytime this happens.

I have the exact same issue and I am POSTIVE it is not a hardware issue because I actually had to return my MacBook THREE times and exchange it for a new one because we though it was a hardware issue. It is not and Apple is IGNORING this issue completely which is honestly VERY ANNOYING. Nothing I tried seemed to work.

i know you what to mean, but also is embarrasing that in any place that need do something in my mbp, i took and open lid and wait if the kb and tp will work... the people around me looking and thinking..."what is he waiting for?" and i put a pocker face, counting seconds and hiting caps lock key until i see led turn on.... this is is software poblem , than nobody at apple wants to fix... those developers are using mac and dont have the problem? maybe they use windows :p

I was planning to buy another MacBook but since I've been facing this problem for some time and now I can see that it's becoming more and more common a glitch among MacBook users I'm seriously considering switching to Windows as no-one from Apple seems to looking into this problem. This is very bad company policy... sad

I have the same issue, even after many system updates from Apple. None of the updates fix it. Reinstall the system from ground up may make many problems disappear, but I've done it once to fix a bug of Catalina. I wouldn't like to reinstall again. With so many settings and app already tuned for my best, It's too troublesome to do it all over again. Maybe that's the reason Mac OS is being more and more sloppy, migrating to another computer platform is also very troublesome...

I bet I can endure it a little longer...

Though I noticed one more thing.

MBP'20 with touchbar: occasionally keyboard and trackpad do not wake up. The OS itself does fine, though.

Sometimes touchbar awakes alone and works normally.

Putting the laptop to sleep and awake it back after about half a minute in most cases resolves the occasion.

The issue happens randomly, on any WiFi, with or without power supply.

I can confirm that this is related to WiFi configuration.

I recently, 2 months back got my top case replaced because of a dead battery out of the box. After that I started experiencing this issue. Randomly it occurs where the keyboard and trackpad is not recognised.

I thought it was a faulty replacement from the service centre but then going through the comments here, it turns out to be very common issue. So I can affirm that its not an hardware issue at all.

I did a test where I just downgraded to Mojave and the issue still persisted. This also justifies some users having the same issue for different versions of MacOS as seen in previous posts. So I'm pretty sure this is a legacy bug which apple never responded to.

As to how I affirmed its a bug related to wifi, I too have shifted to my native due to current pandemic and I am using a dedicated SIM activated hotspot which acts like a router. It stays active all the time and my mpb is connected to it always. I suffered keyboard/trackpad freeze only with this network and never ever I had this issue with my original home router.

So apple has screwed up big time.

I will try to pin point the exact issue by comparing the configurations of these two networks. Hope a specific config can resolve our issue.

Buy a $2000+ laptop and debug problems yourself. Look how the turntables.
