Not only am I upset about the column browser missing in Catalina. But now when I go in to the music store I can't find the search bar. How the heck am I supposed to find anything to buy? The only thing I can do is click on any albums on the front page. There is no way to search for artists, songs or albums.
Ok, I just had a weird glitch. I was NOT getting the search bar on either side and I was searching on-line to find out where it was hidden. I did not see the search bar as it's displayed in the image above.
That is, until I opened iTunes in full screen mode and then the search bar popped in on the left side. I have no idea why. I think there's a bit of a glitch with that search bar.
When I went out of full screen the search bar remains.
I do wish they would bring back the column browser tho.

This is a terrible UI. Not intuitive at all and it forces the user to leave their existing playlist to perform the search.
What's the problem? You just go to the "search" bar on the upper left side, and search your library for whatever. This action doesn't interrupt the playlist or album that you're listening to.
An even bigger problem is that Apple won't let you delete your own post (I accidentally posted the same answer to you twice, hingerty). All I can do is edit. This is the edit.

I don't know what to tell you. I always see the search bar in the upper left hand corner full screen or not.
Why does it seem like every upgrade of iTunes or Apple Music make things worse not better. Apple had such good will and things like this make you hate them.

I figured out a solution--the browser-based Music allows consumers to search. https://music.apple.com
Apple relentlessly pushes its monthly Music subscription. Perhaps they have forgotten to facilitate the buying of tunes individually.
FoxFifth, your screenshot is outdated now. There is no search window in my version, Music 1.0.2.37.
It is impossible to find and purchase a song without a search window.
