Microsoft Edge Win 7 desktop PC - I Tunes

Recently upgraded to Microsoft Edge browser using win7.

Since this occurred The preview player refuses to play any previews unless I've already bought them.

When buying an "oldie" I've run into several times when a song was re-recorded decades later by the original artists but not the original and I've wound up buying it only to delete it because it wasn't what I wanted.

If this is a new policy from I-tunes this is a rip-off because of the above stated problem... however

I've tried clicking on HELP and a notice says I'm not on line. I'm on line enough to be charged for music I don't want, but not to get i tunes help, or preview what I'm about to buy.

I have a problem free computer that is too old to upgrade to Win10 and can't afford one until next year. Apple says it's Microsoft's fault, Microsoft says consult Apple.

The player works perfectly when playing a tune from my Itunes library or if I've already purchased it, (in other words I have to buy it before I know it's not what I wanted it) but not to preview.

HELP... before you guys lose a customer.

The current version of iTunes is 12.10.1.4 - here is a link:

Anything older than 12.7.2.58 cannot access the store properly.

64-bit iTunes includes 32-bit components, that is normal.

Assuming you've identified the cause of the problem correctly it would seem that the remedy is to remove the Microsoft Edge browser. Preview works fine for me. You might try reinstalling iTunes. See Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates - Apple Community. Links to the most recent builds can be found at the very bottom of the page.

This might be a firewall issue where it blocks some traffic but not others. Different parts of the iTunes interface may use different calls running through different security accounts. See if anything in Resolve issues between iTunes for Windows and third-party security software - Apple Support helps. It may also help to reboot your router and/or switch to public DNS servers. VPNs may also cause an issue.

Apologies for my previous post. Somehow I got the impression you were running Windows 10 which is why I was talking about removing the version from the Microsoft Store.

Question 2

For reasons unknown recent purchases in the store may sometime be hidden. See Hide and unhide music, movies, TV shows, audiobooks, and books - Apple Support to unhide it.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. When reinstalling right click on the downloaded setup file and use run as administrator. It may also help to temporarily disable any non-Microsoft anti-virus.

Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.

The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, or want to revert to an older version if the current one won't work properly for you at the moment. Links to the most recent builds are now at the bottom of the page.

Question 1

Your library and device backups should be unaffected by these steps but there are links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

The player control area shows the Apple logo until you select something to play.

For reasons unknown recent purchases in the store may sometime be hidden from your purchase history. They will show in the store with the legend Purchased rather than an option to Play or a price for purchasing. See Hide and unhide music, movies, TV shows, audiobooks, and books - Apple Support to unhide them.

Well that's certainly novel. I've not heard of that error in 12 years on these boards.

but with all my attempts, I can no longer buy from you...

For the avoidance of doubt I'm a fellow user. I don't work for Apple. No skin off my nose where you buy your music from, but I'd like to help you fix your issue with iTunes if I can. Assuming a 64-bit computer could you have some remnants of an old 32-bit version of iTunes lurking somewhere? Can you confirm you did all of the steps exactly as set out in Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components when uninstalling and reinstalling? The reboot in particular is important, as is making sure that all of the potential installation folders for various components have been cleared.

You can remove the version supplied by the Microsoft Store, then install from one of these direct links.

It is possible to download the files from Apple's website, but they do a good job of hiding the links to try to get you to use the Microsoft Store version if you're running Windows 10.

this time I've added screen shots below

Let me preface this by saying it's not written in a tone of anger... just patient bewilderment.

I trashed the I tunes in add/removed and reloaded the software as suggested to an earlier version.

To my relief all (well almost all) of my tunes survived the process. thanks.

Same problem tho

This concerns old and newly installed software just minutes ago...

Slide one-Library - the player controls at the top left are there, but the player in the middle top only has the apple logo

When I click a song it plays normally no problem.

Note slide one does not include the songs "Goin' out of my head" and "put your head on my shoulder"

Image 2 Apple store

When I click play on any song-even the ones marked purchased a series of blue dots (circled) revolves around the play button but the player up top doesn't appear, the controls remained grayed out and they keep circling with no result.

Also note the two afore mentioned songs that are marked purchased but don't appear on image one library.

Please help

thanks

Everything in a nutshell and pictures

Uninstalled everything and created a restore point

Reinstalled and to my relief still had all my tunes

The following images are as it stands now and are self explanitory

Thanks for your patience...

PLEASE NOTE - this is written in a fun, amused, calm tone of voice... not a bitchy or harassing tone at all

all original problems still exist

Tried to reset Cache twice, both times I got a warning that my command prompt was being used from two Apple .exe files and the computer locked. I had to force a restart to clear the screen twice/both attempts.

Before all this, I used my public library card to get CDs free. copy the songs I liked free and since I'm 64 I have 6,720+ titles/songs/albums, but there are some that they don't have and I tunes was more convenient with undamaged cds. but with all my attempts, I can no longer buy from you... not that I don't want to, but because I can't-I tried to access my account before I wrote this and it won't let me despite correct password and ID - which still puzzles me considering that my purchased music comes right up.

I'll try one more time just to say I didn't give up, but I don't hold out hope

Thanks so much for trying to help

Went to Microsoft and the only update is for win10.

Believe it or not, I'm using an HP desktop PC from

Drum roll

2005 that originally ran XP and was upgraded to win7. It's been trouble free for 14 years but the motherboard won't allow the update to Win10.

I'm on disability and can't afford a new computer so I'm screwed when MS stops support next year.

I'm saving up for a new one on the hopes that prices will come down substantially this xmas. I've actually changed the CD/DVD burner (myself) in it twice and installed extra cooling fans twice.

As for I tunes, I guess I'll just have to take my chances. So far I've bought 7 tunes it turned out were versions I didn't want. The preview player works fine, but only after I've bought the tune

Alas.

THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO TRY TO HELP - MUCH APPRECIATED

I have version 14

I went to my software options in Win7 where I add/remove/repair and "repaired" all three apple applications, that didn't work. I assume that's where I remove it.

I saw where I can go backward, so I'll try on the following questions

Question, will I lose my library of hundreds of songs in the process?

Question, I purchased a song day before yesterday that I'm being billed for but it never appeared in my library. I tried buying it again, but it says Purchased on it and won't let me... How do I recover this song?
