IMPORTANT - REVERSAL FROM APPLE: AMPDevicesAgent IS AN APPLE CATALINA PRODUCT.
After snooping around my system, I called Apple again -- there was too much inconsistency in what I found in my system, in what Apple told me, and in what I read in the Apple community threads.
AMPDevicesAgent is an Apple Catalina product, and replaces the IOS devices (e.g., backups) drivers that iTunes used to have. The Apple tech support fellow told me that he is 100% certain that is correct. The correct answer to that AMPDevicesAgent pop-up is "Allow" (one-time), or "Always Allow" (permanent).
My apologies to all for the earlier misinformation. I was just as confounded as you. Thank you for staying on this and questioning what I wrote -- ultimately it's the right answer that counts.
what is AMP Devices Agent
AMPDevicesAgent is a phishing scam -- I just spoke with Apple Tech Support by telephone. If you get it, take a screen shot and report to Apple: e-mail to reportphishing@apple.com
This doesn't ring true to me, phishing exploits are usually email based -- were you encountering an AMPDevicesAgent prompt during the course of using email?
Do you sync an iOS device to the iMac that is showing the prompt? What happens if you sync the same device to the other iMac that hasn't been showing the prompt?
The prompt is only activated if the connected Mac is initiating a sync operation, which you probably didn't do?
So now I'm totally confused. Is this a legitimate pop up or is it a phishing scam? I just allowed it based on the early answers and now I read that it's phishing. Does anyone know for sure?
Never mind. It sounds like it's legit.
It' s ok . From apple catalina
You must use it if you want to reset your old ipod nano
