iPhone Mail email intermittently truncated when replying or forwarding, so the email thread is missing

Office 365 and Exchange 2013/2016 users are getting intermittent truncated emails when replying or forwarding. This is affecting iOS 12 and 13 and all iPhone and iPad models. If the user doesn't notice the problem before sending the receiver only gets the header of the reply but no text body or previous threads. There is no root cause but it appears to be worse when the sender is on cellular and/or gets a lot of emails constantly and replies quickly. Please notify Apple if you're having this issue and encourage them to make a public posting about this issue. It appears to have started or gotten worse on or around October 4th

FYI... iOS 13.2.3 releasing today November 18, 2019

https://www.macrumors.com/2019/11/18/apple-releases-ios-and-ipados-13-2-3/

iOS 13.2.3 includes bug fixes and improvements for your iPhone. This update:

  • Fixes an issue where system search and search within Mail, Files, and Notes might not work

  • Addresses an issue where photos, links, and other attachments might not display in the Messages details view

  • Fixes an issue that could prevent apps from downloading content in the background

  • Resolves issues that may prevent Mail from fetching new messages, and fail to include and quote original message content in Exchange accounts

I thought this problem was fixed in IOS 13.3 beta 3. It is somewhat worse in one way. I had an attachment embedded in the email chain. I forwarded the whole chain several times. The recipient did not get the entire chain, although each time in sent items it appears as fully sent. So, now it appears as sent when it wasn’t.

A couple of my users have the same issue. I couldn't replicate the issue with their devices. I couldn't replicate the issue with the same email that were forwarded. I am suspecting it is because of the connection at time the email were forwarded or replied. When I tracked the emails, truncated email seems to be when my users are commuting. It could be carrier connection issue. Please let me know if anyone else notice it.

Having so many issues with the mail app on iOS 13 as well. Now on 13.1.3 and it really doesn’t seem to have corrected much.

  • Emails that I read, after I back out of them, they change back to unread
  • Emails that I move to another folder or delete keep reappearing so I have to move it or delete it a second time
  • Forwarding emails is an issue. When I forward them, none of the content from the original message shows up to the person receiving it
  • Sent folder. When I send an email, it now shows up in that folder twice on occasion. I know that’s not normal or correct
  • Very glitchy. The app closes out sometimes or just opens back up to a random email that I read many weeks ago

Sorry, but I am going to say what needs to be said. An update in 2019 should work better than something in 2014 and unfortunately, in this case, it doesn’t. I don’t think of iOS 13 as much of an upgrade at all as I have had more issues than ever before with my phone. Just to save you all time on your responses, I’ve already went through all the restarts, deleting the app, etc. and nothing works. If Apple could please work to fix these issues, we would all appreciate it.

I am part of the IT Department for a firm with over 500 users. Most of our users updated their iPhone 8 and up to 11 Pro with the latest version of 13.2 and we are still having this email truncated issue. People respond to emails and the recipients only see a small portion of the email. It's extremely frustrating, specially when the email is been forward to someone new and they have no clue as to why they are been brought into the conversation. We've played around with all the email settings on iPhones and nothing seems to fix it. We've even had two identical phones with same settings on exchange server and device and one experiences the issue while the other doesn't . I use to be able to say "you can trust Apple Updates" but lately not so much. Specially since this is a known bug since the release of iOS 13 and the issue has not been addressed. It's as if Apple has forgotten that a good portion of their customers are now business\corporations that rely on iPhone's to be able to play nice with exchange in order to deliver mail. Apple please do something about this mess.

These are the reported issues so far and none are resolved in iOS 13.2

· Lose the email thread when forwarding or replying to emails, only the subject title is carried over.

· Can’t see the drafts folder emails being saved

· Emails that you have replied to remain as unread

· Duplicate emails are coming through

· Often have to restart the mail app in order for new emails to come through

· Issues with flagging emails, doesn’t always work

and here we are again.. previously it was an unacknowledged issues w/Drafts not saving at all yet quietly said bug was squashed w/13.x.x.

apple, acknowledge your bugs and maybe test your iOS13 patches with devices that actually get real email from exchange?? Apple is big in the enterprise and well, i'm our MDM so you don't want to annoy us who recommend devices to said users.

seeing issues in our company too, not everyone on iOS13 but quite a few. exchange 2013 on-prem.
