iPhone 11 Pro Camera Lens Cracking

Hi,

Im excited to own the new iPhone 11 Pro but after a few weeks of ownership, one of the 3 camera lenses has shattered out. The phone has never dropped or mishandled, just simply normal use in my pocket. I just wanted to make the Apple community aware that the Camera glass is very weak! Buy a case that covers and will well protect the cameras. Ive attached a picture of my phones broken camera lens.

This happened to me this summer... the top camera lens cracked. I called Apple and they were useless, they told me they can’t replace such a small part and the only solution was to replace the whole handset in exchange of £700 (i don’t have apple care).

Of course I said no because this is ridiculous, I didn’t want a new phone I just wanted a new glass camera lens cap which is tiny and shouldn’t be that hard to replace.

In the meantime I stick tape to my camera to prevent dust and damage to the inner lens. I finally found a repair shop that had this tiny part in stock and was willing to replace it for me. Can you guess how much it cost me?

£50 😂

Not ideal but better than not being to use my camera at all. Also my phone was already out of warranty and because it was bought in the US no insurance company other than apple care wanted to insure my phone to begin with. This is just my bad luck...

Now I have a Spigen tempered glass camera protection, it doesn’t look as nice as when it’s without but at least it protects from this stupid thing happening again.

After three days of negotiation, Apple said they will cover my repair but only after they make sure my damage is not water caused. They are supposed to ship me a box first so that I can ship my damaged device back to them but they got my address wrong.. It seemed that changing to correct address needs a lot of procedures and definitely more than 24 hours and I am really not sure when I can get that sort out.

To people here whose camera was broken outside, I don't think Apple will cover that with their warranty. But for someone whose camera was broken inside but perfectly okay outside, you may want to reach out to Apple and argue your case.

I’ve never cracked and iPhone camera lens and I’ve owned IPhones and iPads since the iPhone 4s came out. Camera Lens breaking before back glass breaking seams to be a flaw in the glass they used on the camera lens. Recall to replace a small cheap part for Apple to replace do to defect glass lens would be a bit more above and beyond what Apple would be known for not doing when things like this happens. I love my iPhones but I would much rather so then taking care of small end things like these when they show a defect in such a cheap resolving issue for many customers.

No both the store and the senior advisor said I could use my Applecare and pay $99 but I didn't think it warranted that. It's not affecting the camera... yet... so I'm hoping for a repair extension or if it gets worse, I'll fix it then but I definitely wanted to file a case (did that with the advisor on the call) and also entered the whole thing on the feedback page (with my case#) to make sure it was noted so I KNOW they have record. They are not being truthful at all.

Hi,

Thought I didn't have this issue on my phone yet (I put a lens cover right away - it decreased the image quality a lot, but there's no other way to keep it safe), I noticed the damaged cameras right away at Apple Store before buying it, on the display models.

We all need to understand Apple has a HUGE repair market. I'd dare to tell they make more revenue fixing their own devices than selling it. Their devices are more and more fragile every year - MacBook Pro, iPhones, iPads.. It's part of their game now.

Best regards,

I purchased my 11pro out right maybe 30-45 days ago and am having the same issue. I was using the phone to take pictures in the "selfie" mode to test the camera. I have never taken a selfie prior to this by the way. I was covering each of the cameras separately to see what each one does and there was no damage to the cameras. I still have no idea what each camera dose even after this extensive scientific test! I set the phone down on the night stand and walked away. Several hours later I unplug the phone from the charger and put it in my pocket. The next time I went to use the camera I notice the bottom camera was shattered. I did not drop the phone or do anything other than put it in my pocket. It's in a protective case by the way. I contacted Apple and was told that as long as I didn't drop it and if no damage is detected it would be fixed. Fast FWD till today and received an e-mail that my phone does not qualify for a repair. I'm so ****** off. 11 Apple devices and no issues and now this! So ******!

No repair available in my research, but you can buy a new one for a discounted price of @ $500 according the apple rep I spoke with. Clearly there is a fault in the lens design and Apple is simply leaving us out to dry, I travel a lot and the camera aspect is the most important part of my iPhone, but I can't afford to replace it and my pictures look like crap now. Come on Apple, step up and address this issue, I assume most of your clients are loyal, I have been for years, but the veneer is beginning to crack and I am shopping around now for my personal electronics.
