iPhone 11 Pro Camera Lens Cracking

Hi,

Im excited to own the new iPhone 11 Pro but after a few weeks of ownership, one of the 3 camera lenses has shattered out. The phone has never dropped or mishandled, just simply normal use in my pocket. I just wanted to make the Apple community aware that the Camera glass is very weak! Buy a case that covers and will well protect the cameras. Ive attached a picture of my phones broken camera lens.

I was one of the first to post here and have been very disappointed Apple has not seen this yet. As the moderators have said, this community is not monitored by Apple. I went back tot eh Apple store that offered to replace my phone for $99 with Apple care. The store manager request that I leave feedback on my recent purchase here

https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

That site is directly monitored my Apple and I believe if we all do it, they will see this as an issue and offer us a solution. Please join me by submitting our feedback.

I have the iPhone 11 - and the bottom camera glass cracked without it falling? Looks exactly like yours. Can’t find a place to fix it.. I don’t need a new phone.. and I don’t need to pay $399 for apple to “replace” the lens. Would be great if Apple would make a more reliable lens or a more realistic and less wasteful solution to the problem.

Also, from the photo you posted, it appears your iPhone is NOT in a case. All iPhone 11 Pro cases ensure the camera bump is fully protected if the phone is placed camera side down. This means every time you place the camera down you are putting the lens covers at risk. You likely wouldn't be here had you invested in a simple, affordable case for your iPhone.

Apple will not fix this issue for free. They call it accidental damage even though it is an obvious manufacturer defect. But the guy at Apple that I showed my phone to said he had not seen it before and that Apple won’t fix it because a couple hundred people out of over 12 million that have been sold. Take it to Apple so it can be documented and hopefully they will fix them if enough people complain. But I don’t think they will fix it because we are such a small number of people having this problem

I noticed the fragility of the lenses right away at Apple Store on the display phones, as well as the screens.

All of them scuffed and with damage. Screens with scratches as well.

If you buy this phone, make sure to put a case, screen protector and lens protects right away like I did, if you don't want to lose more money.

The worst design ever for an iPhone.

I would certainly not do that because dust would definitely get in and jam the zooming & auto focus as well as possibly lead to damaging the lens coating... Best would be to either:

1) Pay and get Apple to repair / replace,

2) Blank it off with cello tape after shaking it upside down to get rid of any debris. The idea is to keep it clean until repaired,

3) Buy an aftermarket replacement lens cover (with 3M adhesive ring) and replace by yourself. There are tutorials videos on Youtube,

4) Give the unit to a repairer to do the job.

Good Luck !

To pay up to $1500 for any phone and not take reasonable, inexpensive measures to protect that investment is simply foolish, IMHO. Whether you or anyone else feels it is important or not is up to the user. I put my $1250 paid all cash iPhone 11 Pro Max in a good case and installed a screen protector on it before I ever turned it on. My iPhone screen is pristine and I will never have to worry about scratches and my iPhone itself is fully protected against anything which might happen to it. Apple sells both iPhone cases and screen protectors. They wouldn't sell them if they weren't good, simple and inexpensive items sold to protect our investments.

Did Apple officially say you should buy either? No. I think Apple assumes we are bright enough to understand these electronic marvels should be protected. But they leave that up to the buyer.

The fact is that the cases often detract from the iPhone design and feel in hand which is usually great.

My question was rhetorical; I do use protective cases and a screen protection layer. Both fitted in the shop by the Apple Store personnel.

One thing though, the various YouTube bloggers tested the glass shatterproofness through destructive tests with the phone bare rather than with a protective case and screen protection layer. Now, if it is assumed that a protective case and screen protection layer will be fitted then should these tests not be performed with both in place to be more realistic ?

We have noted thar the lens covers seem to shatter extremely easily, are there any acceptable protections available for these which will not deteriorate the image quality ?
