iPhone 11 Pro Camera Lens Cracking

Hi,

Im excited to own the new iPhone 11 Pro but after a few weeks of ownership, one of the 3 camera lenses has shattered out. The phone has never dropped or mishandled, just simply normal use in my pocket. I just wanted to make the Apple community aware that the Camera glass is very weak! Buy a case that covers and will well protect the cameras. Ive attached a picture of my phones broken camera lens.

I was one of the first to post here and have been very disappointed Apple has not seen this yet. As the moderators have said, this community is not monitored by Apple. I went back tot eh Apple store that offered to replace my phone for $99 with Apple care. The store manager request that I leave feedback on my recent purchase here

That site is directly monitored my Apple and I believe if we all do it, they will see this as an issue and offer us a solution. Please join me by submitting our feedback.

Oh, yes you should definitely avoid darker lenses or lenses which significantly affect the light transmission.

One thing though; anything put on top / in front of the lenses cover will affect the light transmission. The idea is to minimise these losses as well as any potential parasitic reflections and refractions as these will affect the image quality... Tricky challenge.

Apple should pay attention to this matter !!!

we can’t pat around 1200 USD and then without severe incident at all, noticeable crack is found in the camera.

I am facing the same matter as well and I dont know what shall I do !

I have no apple care, and the customers shouldn’t be punished because of the recklessness of the manufacturer !

appreciate either apple to recall or include it under warranty

Yes. I could not agree more. The alternative and even better option would be to buy that case which has a sliding protective cover. That way the lenses covers are more efficiently protected and pictures unaffected.

Have a look at that; it is the only one I have found.

I think that Apple could advantageously upgrade their own cases with a metal sandwiched flap (in silicone or leather for respective cases) which would be held in place open or closed with thin magnets bands located at each side, the “hinge” being located at the right of the lenses block.

After a day of skiing, I realized that one camera was cracked in my pocket, without any kind of important impact. Taking much care of my phone (with a Spiegen Case & screen-protection) and owned for many years iPhones in the past, I never had issue with the camera lens cover. However on the iPhone 11 the diameter of the protection glas is bigger and seems more likely to brake.

I suggest that you buy replacement lenses covers on the internet. Preferably but the kit with the ones with the 3M adhesive at the back so you don’t have to fuss with any glue, silicon, etc... and the small special tools. You will need a hair dryer or heat gun and thin tweezers to unstick and remove the old shattered lens cover. Ensure all glass fragments are removed by gently tapping the phone upside down on a soft surface as glass leftovers could jam the autofocus. You may also blow dry compressed air too, photographers often use it to remove dust particles.

There are videos which show you how to do the lens cover replacement.

I have the exact same problem. Bottom of the three lenses is shattered. Never dropped. Kept in a case since the day I got it.

I just scheduled an appointment for this afternoon with the store. Won't be too happy if they try to stick me with a $99 replacement fee, but to be honest I'm not going to try to replace the lens covers myself. Hopefully they will find a way to make us all happy here.
