iPhone 11 Pro Camera Lens Cracking

Hi,

Im excited to own the new iPhone 11 Pro but after a few weeks of ownership, one of the 3 camera lenses has shattered out. The phone has never dropped or mishandled, just simply normal use in my pocket. I just wanted to make the Apple community aware that the Camera glass is very weak! Buy a case that covers and will well protect the cameras. Ive attached a picture of my phones broken camera lens.

I was one of the first to post here and have been very disappointed Apple has not seen this yet. As the moderators have said, this community is not monitored by Apple. I went back tot eh Apple store that offered to replace my phone for $99 with Apple care. The store manager request that I leave feedback on my recent purchase here

https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

That site is directly monitored my Apple and I believe if we all do it, they will see this as an issue and offer us a solution. Please join me by submitting our feedback.

Quote: Apple values changed a lot since Jobs is gone.

I totally agree with that and it is unfortunate. I wonder why they removed the following items from the Macs:

1) Battery external charge indicator

2) Magsafe

3) Lit Apple on covers

The only explanation I could find for such downgrades: costs cutting to boost margins...

Software quality has steadily gone down the drains. Product launches are more driven by the calendar than products readiness which is plain wrong.

I hope that the lightning plug will not be the next one to go and be replaced by some ugly USB-C. Apple is a high technology company which is also tightly associated with great simple minimalist design... I hope it remains like so although it is being fragilised for money’ sake which is totally contrary to Steve Jobs’ way. Steve Jobs never received financiers but it was one of the first thing the present CEO did...

Do you have AppleCare+ ? If not then you may as well try to blow as much glass out of the camera then tape it up to avoid dust cacking it. There is an autofocus in there so better to keep it clean.

Some people are selling replacement lenses covers kit for the iPhone 11 Pro. Just check on Google. There are videos showing how to remove shattered glass, clean and replace. Now, self repair, if detectable, may affect the guarantee.

Mine did this too!! I too am careful and I have an otterbox defender case. I have the non-pro version and my top camera cracked. Now when I take pictures you can see the reflection of the light source across the screen. I'm really disappointed ... I was going to buy a macbook air at some point and now I think I'll pass.

Apple, please make this right!

Same Issue!!! Phone is 4 months old. I've dealt with customer service and they are telling me too bad! You pay for a premium Item not so it breaks while in your pocket. Screen repair $429 but a tiny camera lens $779. This is criminal. So incredibly disappointed in Apple for not standing behind their product. I was a big apple believer and owner before this day. Shame on you Apple, You just lost a loyal customer!!!

These lenses covers break so easily because these are so incredibly thin and wide relative to the material thickness...?Rather than replacing these outright, Apple replaces the whole phone for a high premium whilst the 3 lenses cover OEM kit can be found over the internet for about $5... Their replacement is extremely easy for people who can care for details, cleanliness and buy the tool kit _ about $10 _ over the internet together with the lenses covers spares. Videos can be found regarding these lenses covers replacements.

Whilst charging so much $ for such a cheap material & job, it is much cheaper than the screen replacement, Apple is milking it like never before... A pity but that is very much in line with Tim Cook‘s Apple... Unfortunately Steve Jobs is not around anymore...

Best of Luck !!!

I purchased my 11pro out right maybe 30-45 days ago and am having the same issue. I was using the phone to take pictures in the "selfie" mode to test the camera. I have never taken a selfie prior to this by the way. I was covering each of the cameras separately to see what each one does and there was no damage to the cameras. I still have no idea what each camera dose even after this extensive scientific test! I set the phone down on the night stand and walked away. Several hours later I unplug the phone from the charger and put it in my pocket. The next time I went to use the camera I notice the bottom camera was shattered. I did not drop the phone or do anything other than put it in my pocket. It's in a protective case by the way. I contacted Apple and was told that as long as I didn't drop it and if no damage is detected it would be fixed. Fast FWD till today and received an e-mail that my phone does not qualify for a repair. I'm so ****** off. 11 Apple devices and no issues and now this! So ******!

Rbrylawski,

I am calling for any “guesstimate“ you may have, based from your many years experience in this discussion forum sincr you may have seen statistically significant and statistically non-significant feedback regarding issues with Apple products, some of which may have led or not led to recalls or specific warranty arrangements with the objective of rectification.

Given that the feedback from this discussion group almost represents a small sample of the population who took up iPhone 11 series devices, could it be considered, through extrapolation, that the cracking lens covers is a statistically significant or non-significant issue ?

Similarly, considering the postulate that the observed severe flare & ghosting constitutes a genuine issue, given the feedbacks received from this discussion forum, which represents a small population sample of the iPhone 11 series adopters, could it be considered, through extrapolation, that the severe flare & ghosting issue is a statistically significant or non-significant issue ?

I can't answer your question with any facts, anymore than you can. Given this is the most populous forum in the world for Apple devices, one can assume the issues you've questioned represent a significantly small population of users.

Only Apple could tell you definitively the number of users who have reached out to them and they don't do that.
