iPhone 11 Pro Camera Lens Cracking

Hi,

Im excited to own the new iPhone 11 Pro but after a few weeks of ownership, one of the 3 camera lenses has shattered out. The phone has never dropped or mishandled, just simply normal use in my pocket. I just wanted to make the Apple community aware that the Camera glass is very weak! Buy a case that covers and will well protect the cameras. Ive attached a picture of my phones broken camera lens.

This happened to me this summer... the top camera lens cracked. I called Apple and they were useless, they told me they can’t replace such a small part and the only solution was to replace the whole handset in exchange of £700 (i don’t have apple care).

Of course I said no because this is ridiculous, I didn’t want a new phone I just wanted a new glass camera lens cap which is tiny and shouldn’t be that hard to replace.

In the meantime I stick tape to my camera to prevent dust and damage to the inner lens. I finally found a repair shop that had this tiny part in stock and was willing to replace it for me. Can you guess how much it cost me?

£50 😂

Not ideal but better than not being to use my camera at all. Also my phone was already out of warranty and because it was bought in the US no insurance company other than apple care wanted to insure my phone to begin with. This is just my bad luck...

Now I have a Spigen tempered glass camera protection, it doesn’t look as nice as when it’s without but at least it protects from this stupid thing happening again.

I have the iPhone 11 - and the bottom camera glass cracked without it falling? Looks exactly like yours. Can’t find a place to fix it.. I don’t need a new phone.. and I don’t need to pay $399 for apple to “replace” the lens. Would be great if Apple would make a more reliable lens or a more realistic and less wasteful solution to the problem.

The fact is that the cases often detract from the iPhone design and feel in hand which is usually great.

My question was rhetorical; I do use protective cases and a screen protection layer. Both fitted in the shop by the Apple Store personnel.

One thing though, the various YouTube bloggers tested the glass shatterproofness through destructive tests with the phone bare rather than with a protective case and screen protection layer. Now, if it is assumed that a protective case and screen protection layer will be fitted then should these tests not be performed with both in place to be more realistic ?

We have noted thar the lens covers seem to shatter extremely easily, are there any acceptable protections available for these which will not deteriorate the image quality ?

Apple should pay attention to this matter !!!

we can’t pat around 1200 USD and then without severe incident at all, noticeable crack is found in the camera.

I am facing the same matter as well and I dont know what shall I do !

I have no apple care, and the customers shouldn’t be punished because of the recklessness of the manufacturer !

appreciate either apple to recall or include it under warranty

I am still curious about what is the smudge or scratch at the wide camera lens of my iPhone 11 Pro Max. It does not affect the picture quality of the phone. It is noticeable with strong light and can be seen if you look closely at the camera lens but sometimes it cannot be seen if the light is not that bright. I brought my iPhone 11 Pro Max on my vacation in Japan at Apple store Kyoto. I notice that the wide camera lens has a smudge or scratch so I show it at the Sales person and Manager of the store and they said it is just dust. I wipe it with my eyeglasses cloth back at my hotel room and It will not remove so this made me anxious. I had no time to go back to the store that I brought the phone because it is far from my hotel and I had no more time at that time. I am also no longer in Japan and currently now in my home country but we have a Apple service center here. I am asking will Apple replace one of the camera lens if Is a factory or cosmetic defect and is it covered by Apple 1 year warranty. I am just anxious because my iPhone 11 Pro Max is very expensive and I want it perfect and have no defect. Anyone also have the same problem as mine that they receive one of the camera lens with smudge or scratch when they brought the phone. Thank you

Guys after carefully researching I finally learned that my iPhone 11 PRO MAX camera problem is with the camera coating being damaged. I am saddened that Apple did not properly check this before being dispatched at the factory and the salesman at Apple Japan being not knowledgeable about this issue and insisting this is just a dust and a minor cosmetic issue. I brought it overseas in Apple Japan so it would be a hassle for me to return and they might no longer honor me with a phone replacement. Lesson learn that you should not trust the Apple salesperson easily and if you see a problem right at the store let them replace it on the spot because you pay an expensive price for your products and it is your right to get it in good condition. If they would not give you another replacement request for a refund. I became so trustful and lenient that I suffer this consequence of getting an expensive phone with camera lens coating damage. Do you think camera lens coating damage will affect my pictures and videos? Hoping all for your response to my inquiry because I still need more knowledge about this problem. I am still in Apple 1 Year limited service warranty so if this is a serious issue they might still replace my phone. Thanks
