Ios 13.1.3 update removed voicemail

One two of our phones, both iPhone Xs, when IoS updated from 12.X to 13.1.3, there is no voicemail listed in "Voicemail." That is, when you click the green "phone" icon, then on the lower right, the "Voicemail" icon. The icon that is in row with "Favorites," "Recents," "Contacts," "Keypad," and "Voicemail."

If i dial voice mail they are there, how do i get it back? This is very inconvenient to say the list.

Thanks.

iPhone XS

Here are my two cents. Bottom line - I had this issue and it’s now resolved.

I’ve been with AT&T for over 20 years. Every iPhone I’ve had, back to the original iPhone in 2007, has been with AT&T.

In addition to the recent iOS 13.1.3 release, nobody has mentioned that AT&T issued a cellular update (to version 38.1) late last week.

Anyway, I called AT&T after my visual voicemail disappeared for the first time ever a few days ago, and standard remedies like Reset Network Settings did not help. AT&T rebuilt my mailbox. It turned out I had one saved message in the old mailbox, and the technician asked if it would be OK if I lost that, and I said that was in fact OK. It turned out the message actually re-appeared in the rebuilt mailbox. When rebuilding the mailbox, a new passcode is required. My old passcode was four digits, but now AT&T requires at least seven digits! I had a previous custom greeting. That was lost and I had to re-record it (or use the default greeting).

Anyway, this all occurred about 24 hours ago, and all is still working fine.

A family member had the same missing voice mail issue. They were told at the AT&T store that nothing could be done about her missing voicemails. They called AT&T technical support and they were able to fix and retrieve the missing voicemails and now the voicemail on the phone has been restored. It sounds like it depends on who you get to help you at AT&T. We are very thankful for this thread because it gave us hope. The voicemails that have now been retrieved are from a loved one that can no longer speak. So it was a sweet blessing for the AT&T technician to spend the time fixing the problem. So from our experience through this it appears that AT&T can solve the issue if they choose to help you.

What is "obvious" sometimes isn't as obvious as you think. For example, AT&T voicemail has been down across much of the country for the past couple of weeks. See-->https://mobile.slashdot.org/story/19/10/21/013259/is-att-hiding-a-widespread-voicemail-outage

And even if that isn't the problem, voicemail is managed by the carrier, INCLUDING the visual voicemail function on your phone. Just like the carrier manages the calling features of the Phone app.

It is obvious. It's definitely the apple update. My wife, father, and mother all have the same phone. Two phones that updated recently (I think last night 10/21/19) have this exact problem. The two phones that haven't installed the updated software are totally fine and showing visual voicemails as usual. Whatever was in the latest software update no longer is talking to the ATT&T carrier software.

edit: I guess I should acknowledge that maybe it was a carrier update that screwed up, but I don't remember installing any carrier software update.

Update:

Yesterday, I did a chat session with Apple. Tried all sorts of fixes, nothing worked. They basically said it would have to be AT&T that would have to fix it. I asked if there was a way to revert back to a previous iOS other than 13.1.3. They said no (I don't believe them, but what can I do).

Called AT&T, they confirmed there's a problem but there's nothing that can be done at this moment to fix it. But they are working hard on it (yeah... ok...). I suggested as a previous poster that they 'send me an update to my phone' or that they 'rebuild my voicemail box' to fix it. Customer support said that they couldn't do that or that it wouldn't work. Essentially there was nothing I could do at this given time to fix it and need to wait for them to correct the issue. Meanwhile I should just call into my voicemail to get them. That would be an acceptable temporary solution if my phone told me I had voicemails (which it does not do anymore). So essentially I need to call directly into my voicemail multiple times a day just to check and see if I missed any voicemails (first world problems, I know, but I am paying for this service so I should be allowed to complain about it). Also, he agent told me that people have been having problems both with and without the new iOS update. My updating appears to have just triggered it.

So hopefully that helps out other people that are having this problem.
