Siri dictation throws in extra words that I am not saying

When I dictate a text or other things, catcher Siri randomly throws in some form of the word catch whenever she wants to. It just happened above after the words other things achieve. I never said the word catcher. Catch the same thing is true of the word achieve a Chuchu in a sentence before last catchy. Catching. There it goes again so I will type the rest of this. You have to ignore “a Chuchu” to make sense of what Siri is typing in place of what I am dictating. Ever see anything like this before?

YES, it's happening to nearly EVERY voice dictation I do on text, email, imessage. If I don't proofread before sending, I can bet there will be a few "catch" phrases in the mix. I'm using the iPhone 11pro max with the latest iOS 13 updates if that makes a difference.

I will definitely pursue that angle with her.

I find myself suddenly incompetent at posting replies and I have fragmented my replies badly.

there are 6 parts to what I am saying, so please read on.

In the end, after finding a dumb mistake when I failed to follow the engineers instruction, I did get dictation working (at least for now) on my iPhone 5s with ios12 by making changes in the setup parameters for the keyboard support.

I consider that a bypass rather than a solution for me, but maybe it really is a solution for the IOS13 version of dictation support.

I don't know, but maybe there are similar settings for the dictation and keyboard support on desktop.

In any case I will ask Crystal for the best way to proceed with what you need.

She will know if a new case has to be opened with desktop support, and if so, she will probably want you to be the customer for that case. After all, I have zero background with using Apple desktop at all. When I can, I'll get some answers back to get you plugged in.

I don't think we want to do much more right away. i.e. during our thanksgiving dinner preparation and feasting.

I'll reply back to you again as soon my circumstances allow me to.

This is a follow-up on step 6 above. Call off the dogs!!!

We may have a kind of solution here!!! (but only for iPhone users so far.)

I performed all those steps that the engineers proposed. everything looked like the issue was resolved during the tests that I did. Soon the issue was back with the CATCH word inserted randomly. Eventually I went back through the steps again, and when I got to the "General > Keyboard" setting to disable 4 functions, they all showed up as ON again.

Hmmm. first they were OFF, problem went away. Then, Problem came back and they were found to be ON again. Hmmm.

Still don't know how that happened, but i turned them OFF again. Problem went away. They stayed OFF, of course. and the problem has stayed away.

I make sure they have stayed OFF, and never see the word CATCH or any other strange inserts anymore. I am still on my 5s hardware with iOS 12.4.3 and dictation works fine. Of course some functions are disabled, but I found them mostly useless or irritating rather than helpful anyway. I don't miss them, and dictation types what I actually say. The only exception is those cases where my pronunciation doesn't meet some standard that the program is written for. That was always a problem, but a minor one to me.

Bernie,

This really looks like a virus that takes advantage of a system flaw in a very persistent and pernicious fashion. It may go dormant for a short while with the recommended remedies, but then sneaks back in to show its ugly "fatou catchy" face. I am certainly no IT expert. Yet I know we need actions to forcefully eradicate this problem, not short fixes that don't resolve the issue. Because of my tremor, I rely upon voice dictation heavily. I HAVE NO CHOICE. Please pass this on to Crystal. I very much appreciate all that you and she are doing to help all of us struggling with this "catchy catch".

P.S: You won't believe how much time it took to type this post and then remove all of my typos caused by my tremor...TEN oor ELEVEN minutes! Texting is vexing and composing densely-worded resumes and authoritave e-mails at work is downright daunting. I feel "caught" in some nasty web.

I regarded the six step process iaa a bypass at best. Last week, I had the same experience where it seemed to work but then came back with a vengeance. Haven’t talk to Crystal yet but I will certainly get back with her as quick as I can. I think of you as I continue to struggle to get a handle on this. I have the 5S phone it was very surprised when the six steps got me complete relief for almost a week. Now I can re-create the problem just by breathing during a pause.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND RESETTING! I did as you suggested, even rebooted, and problem is still there. But now all my special words are gone.

This is not a RESET issue. It's an Apple issue.

And it began for me immediately upon installing the 2nd to the last OS update. I had avoided the update until they bugged the crap out of me to install it, so I did. Then - Voila! - Catchy catch catch had invaded.

APPLE needs to do something about this - NOT US!!! Maybe if we all call they'll do something???

I also have this exact same issue with my brand new IPhone 11 Pro Max. If I hesitate for 1-2 seconds when using the mic, catch, catcher, catchy randomly pop up. My camera has frozen a few times, too. Has anyone called Apple with our problem?

Just ask for Customer Service. I spoke to a human. He didn't know anything about it but put me on a 5 minute hold. I have aIOS13.2.3 . He sent me over to the senior advisor after running through a bunch of things through Settings-General. He finally asked me to do what was suggested by someone else...General-Reset-Reset Keyboard Dictionary. I told him I didn't want to do that because of the other person on this conversation that said "DON'T DO IT. IT DOESN'T WORK!"

Senior Advisor came on and she hadn't heard anything about this either. I gave her this website address so she know that we are a community with the same "catchy" problem! I'll let you know what she says.

I did keyboarrd dictionary reset; didn't work. So I called Apple Care and after a lot of rigmarole, the rep told me to reset my phone: DID NOT HELP. After much more waiting I was handed over to a supervisor, who consistently repeated that he could not go on my "hearsay" that MANY others are experiencing this problem. He wanted me to do a complete system wipe of my phone, but last time I did that to fix a bug five years ago, the resulting problems were crazy endless mucked up. I told him so and requested he take note of this problem for future update patch/system fix. He reiterated that he could not act on my "hearsay claim" that this is NOT a problem unique to my phone, but is instead a problem experienced by many Apple users. I am not happy with his lame response. GRRRR. If any of you should try the full and complete system wipe/reinstall, let me know if it worked for you. Otherwise I am fearful of encountering the same type of headaches I experienced in the past without the problem actually being resolved for all that trouble.
