Hello, I have the same problem of not being able to connect to the internet after the update to 10.15.1. I have been using Intego's Virus Barrier & Net barrier for some time and Luis's comment may have some merit.

I turned off Net Barrier and can now connect to the internet. I turned it back on and can't connect to the internet. I contacted Intego and they are aware and working on a fix. So if you have Net Barrier just turn it off. Virus Barrier is still on. Hope this is of some help.

Etrecheck does not make any modifications to your system. It merely produces a report so you, and others who may be trying to help troubleshoot issues, can find out which system modifications are installed.

Intego, on the other hand, installs a number of system extensions, launch agents and daemons-and is constantly interfering with the mac normal operation, to “protect” you from nonexistent viruses.

The first rule of a healthy mac is not to install junk.

I have seen so many people around here with their macs misbehaving, riddled with adware, who thought they were safe because they had intego, or symantec, or whatnot. This junk only causes trouble, and it gives zero protection.

I have a MacBook Air (the first in the series), an iMac (a couple of years old) and a MacMini (the model before the latest). I loaded the latest update and am experiencing the same problems as mentioned in this feed with my MacBook Air and iMac only. The MacMini is working fine. I have Intego software on all three. Some of the feedback/suggestions regarding Intego software doesn't make sense considering that my Mini is working with the update and the older models are not. I think it's quite odd that only my older model Macs are affected by this update.

I had the same problem when I updated to the 15.1 recent update. Both my MacBook (using wifi) and my iMac (using ethernet) would show very slow internet after a few minutes with pages failing to load. I'd have to disconnect and reconnect from the network and reboot, only to have it happen all over again in a few minutes. Doing this simple thing solved my problem: on both machines: I disabled Intego net barrier ("turn protection off") and enabled the native MacOs firewall instead (system preferences, security and privacy, firewall). Problem solved! No reboot required even. I expect Intego will fix the problem in Net Barrier in their next update. I think the antivirus/anti-malware (virus barrier) provides useful protection, despite the urban legend that MacOs doesn't need it. I wouldn't uninstall the whole thing, that would be throwing out the baby with the bathwater. The antivirus software after years of use, at least by me, has never caused any problems ever, so at least keep that. I don't know if you can uninstall just the firewall, but if you just disable it and wait awhile Intego will likely provide a fix. Hope this works for you.

I booted in Safe Mode and had some limited connectivity. On a whim, I decided to look at the advanced features under network preferences, and made my way over to the DNS tab. I added a couple of DNS servers to the list (Google and Cloudfare). I got the info for those DNS servers from Lifewire.com. After adding the primary and secondary servers for both, I found that my internet speed picked right up. I rebooted in normal mode, confirmed that the additional DNS servers were available, and connected to the internet without any issues. I am not running the antivirus softwares that others on this thread are using, but I do have Sophos installed as a precaution because I use Parallels to run Windows 10 for work. I didn't try uninstalling Sophos before updating my available DNS servers.

@Birkhoff92 Thanks for the tip - but tried all the usual solutions - checked network settings, clean install, safe mode boot up (which worked but neither Apple nor I were able to identify the offending 3rd party or Apple bug) - so I simply rolled back until the problem is more definitively identified or until all the 3rd party apps I use have issued fixes - it’s highly likely that the offending App was Intego though - a patch has been released but will wait a little longer before trying again - wasted whole day’s work attempting to fix the issue on the previous pass :(

Yep did (read up) my contribution was an added observation by way of confirmation that the issue was probably (can’t be definite) with Intego and not Apple - but I’m waiting a little longer before attempting to reinstall. Also don’t entirely agree that Intego is useless - both MalwareBytes AND Intego have found issues for me in the past albeit in Intego’s case Infected attachments (major supplier had been hacked / infiltrated and it’s emails were spamming attachments) but that was still a plus that potentially saved me hours of work / cash so will keep them running - the correct approach I think is as another poster intimated is to wait and scour forums for issues before proceeding UNLESS the Update is a major security release in which case install ASAP - that’s what I usually do - but unfortunately didn’t on this occasion ^^o

Don’t disable Intego or Trend Micro yet (if you have it installed). Check for an update first.

I was experiencing slow internet, sometimes it simply stalled, but a recent Intego update fixed all my internet issues. Now, it runs like a dream.

Check all of your third party software for updates before reverting to drastic measures like disabling or uninstalling/reinstalling anything.

Upgraded my late 2013 MacBook Pro to Catalina and it developed some little weirdnesses-mostly involving files not saving with the correct file extensions. Updated to 10.15.1 and started having internet connectivity problems. Updated my iPhone 7 to 13.2 and it is having the same problem. Web pages will not load in Safari or chrome. Used Suddenlink/Altice online troubleshooting tools and wasted over an hour and a half waiting on telephone tech support to do an operational check on my modem which was a massive waste of time. Tested/checked everything I could find ... nothing helped.

Got desperate and went to the Public library and logged on to their secure WiFi - everything worked. Came home and set up new modem. Didn’t help. New router didn’t help. Completely changed WiFi SSID and passwords to force a new connection, didn’t help. New cables didn’t help.

It seems like this is not my computer/iPhone’s problem, not my WiFi equipment. Logging on in safe mode didn’t help.

I don’t know what else to check - 6 years and I’ve never had to troubleshoot my MacBook. Does anyone have suggestions on what else I might check?
