internet issues with mac OS 10.15.1
I recently upgraded my Mac to OS 10.15.1 and now I cannot get on the internet.
I recently upgraded my Mac to OS 10.15.1 and now I cannot get on the internet.
Get internet if boot into safe mode. turn off computer, turn on while holding left shift button. Should see Safe mode in red in upper right corner. log on with you password open browser & should work. left apple chat with reinstalling 10.15.1 and wasted another 35 minutes getting nothing on internet either thru ethernet or wifi. I will pick up with them in the morning as it is too late to deal with it. Apple's faulty os releases makes me think they are trying to mirror microsoft. This didn't happen in the past & is what made apple. SMH
Hi Luis, thanks for the quick reply. When you say uninstall Intego do you mean permanently? I don't want to be without a virus checker (I've know uninstalled all 32 bit apps I could find, including Toast. It hasn't helped)
I'm having the same issues here having upgraded my 2012 MBP 13" which was running Mojave quite happily.
Strangely Safari (& Firefox/Chrome) loads the Apple.com site at 'normal' speed, definitely doesn't like loading any others at the same speed especially anything like Gmail??!
It doesn't work in safe mode on my computer. After a reboot it works briefly. Almost like a memory buffer, or cache is filling up and not clearing. Once full all incoming data stops. I tried safe boot, disconnecting all my perpetuals The results are all the same. I brief connection followed by a slowdown of incoming data. Then everything stops. Its a real pain, but I could boot off my external HD, and reinstall 10.15 a process I really don't want to have to start. I'll wait until Apple has something to say.
The resolution to this issue has absolutely nothing to do with 3rd party software to blame. Its obvious we were all working 100% prior to the upgrade. The culprit here is captain obvious...the 10.15.1 upgrade. Don't waste your time removing apps etc.........this problem will kick up some serious dust as it affects one of the earths most important resources......the internet and access to it. Take internet away from any human and sh1ts gunna hit the fan. I bet Apple is already onto 10.15.2 in the next 24 hours.
Its a real pain in the *** though.
Hello, I have the same problem of not being able to connect to the internet after the update to 10.15.1. I have been using Intego's Virus Barrier & Net barrier for some time and Luis's comment may have some merit.
I turned off Net Barrier and can now connect to the internet. I turned it back on and can't connect to the internet. I contacted Intego and they are aware and working on a fix. So if you have Net Barrier just turn it off. Virus Barrier is still on. Hope this is of some help.
@LuisSequeria - In an earlier reply you suggested to install Etrecheck, then you say " Do not install intego or other useless stuff." Both Etrecheck and Intego are available in the App Store. Is there any way to know what is useless and what is useful stuff in the App Store ? Is there some rating system somewhere?
Today I upgraded to Catalina version 10.15.1 (19B88) and sudden;y my safari broaswer has slowed to almost a halt in opening the most simplest of pages e.g. Google, this is not acceptable as my Mac is my primary source of income
I have a MacBook Air (the first in the series), an iMac (a couple of years old) and a MacMini (the model before the latest). I loaded the latest update and am experiencing the same problems as mentioned in this feed with my MacBook Air and iMac only. The MacMini is working fine. I have Intego software on all three. Some of the feedback/suggestions regarding Intego software doesn't make sense considering that my Mini is working with the update and the older models are not. I think it's quite odd that only my older model Macs are affected by this update.
Upgraded my late 2013 MacBook Pro to Catalina and it developed some little weirdnesses-mostly involving files not saving with the correct file extensions. Updated to 10.15.1 and started having internet connectivity problems. Updated my iPhone 7 to 13.2 and it is having the same problem. Web pages will not load in Safari or chrome. Used Suddenlink/Altice online troubleshooting tools and wasted over an hour and a half waiting on telephone tech support to do an operational check on my modem which was a massive waste of time. Tested/checked everything I could find ... nothing helped.
Got desperate and went to the Public library and logged on to their secure WiFi - everything worked. Came home and set up new modem. Didn’t help. New router didn’t help. Completely changed WiFi SSID and passwords to force a new connection, didn’t help. New cables didn’t help.
It seems like this is not my computer/iPhone’s problem, not my WiFi equipment. Logging on in safe mode didn’t help.
I don’t know what else to check - 6 years and I’ve never had to troubleshoot my MacBook. Does anyone have suggestions on what else I might check?
Appreciate you posting that link on virus/malware protection. I recently migrated to Apple ecosystem and I had no idea third party virus/malware protection was not only useless but detrimental to the macOS.
I agree with you. I am able to access the internet via wifi, but not via ethernet. I can however access our local network via ethernet. Both use the same ISP. A co-worker is experiencing the exact same issue. Very strange....the issue manifested itself after we both upgraded to 10.15.1. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks for the direction. The DNS was different for the Ethernet, so I changed it to match the WiFi. Unfortunately still the same behavior, note too that they both show as "connected" with a green dot under System Preferences->Network
Mike you may be on to something. I'll play around with bypassing the switch with the ethernet connection. It wouldn't be the first time I had unrelated simultaneous glitches that made diagnosing a real challenge. I originally discounted the switch because we have five computers, two Macs and three Win. PCs, it's only the two Macs that are having connectivity issues.
That advice is complete BS.
As you can see by reading this thread there are several solutions depending on what is the actual cause for you. The most egregious example in the thread is intego, but there are also other causes and there is always a solution.
Luis Sequeira1, "Disabling" them does NOT solve the problem. You should learn the difference between mitigation of symptoms, and solving issues. Disabling them mitigates part of the issue where the loss of whatever function of that third party software results in restoring communication. You do not get to decide what functionality is valid or reasonable - furthermore, you're not the CIO or CISO of businesses that may require such software. There are tons of issues associated with Catalina.
