Upgraded to Cataline on MacPro now can't listen to music from library

Hi please help....

I upgraded to Catalina on my MacBook Pro and am signed in to my apple account, but I cannot access any of my music from the library or playlists in the music app.

It shows the songs/albums but they are shaded out and when I click on them it doesn't play.

I can see a little message in the bottom left of the music app screen that says "An error occurred" but it doesn't give me any more information.

I am trying to organise music for my mums funeral in a few days time and I am very stressed that I can't get this to work :(

thanks Lance C - Sydney, Australia

Do you subscribe to Apple Music, iTunes Match, or both?

  • No. This means you cannot access iCloud Music Library. If you ever subscribed to either of these services, then you may have had music in iCloud at one time which you can no longer access. You need to populate your library from some place where you backed up your music.
  • Yes. Go to iTunes Store on the left sidebar. Then use iTunes' menu to choose File > Library > Update iCloud Library.
