Unable to open files

I updated to Catalina 10.15.1 last night.

This morning I cannot open files using Numbers, Pages or Keynote. Message simply states " The document "XXX" could not be opened".

When I go to the file on yesterday's Time Machine. the file can be opened.

When I bring the copied file back once again it cannot be opened.

Trouble Opening Files on New MBP in Catalina After restoring files (via Time Machine Backup) to a new MacBook Pro with Catalina, I cannot double-click documents to open them. I get an error message that says "XXX.whatever is damaged and cannot be opened. You should move it to the Trash." However, if I launch the application first and then use File/Open command, those same documents open just fine. Affected applications include, Pages, Preview, Acrobat Reader, Word and Excel. Is there a fix for this?

Catalina 10.15.1: problems opening files, multiple applications Since upgrading to Catalina on my Macbook Air (2015) I have had occasional problems opening files in multiple applications, including (so far) Preview, Keynote, MS Word, Scrivener, and others. When trying to open a file, I get the simple message "The file [X] could not be opened", with no further information. There do not seem to be permissions problems with the files themselves. Rebooting the computer seems to resolve the problem, but then within a couple of days it crops up again. Has anyone had a similar issue, and is there a solution? Thanks.

Thank you all for staying on top of this. I do not see that Time Machine is a factor in my problem. However, I've been shutting down every night and rebooting every morning, to avoid having to go through that chore anyway after a file fails to open. I'm hoping that this issue is resolved with the next Catalina update.

I hate to tempt fate but the problem has not recurred in the last week.

I am not restarting each day simply logging out and sleeping at the end of the day.

I do not use any Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) on this machine (MacBook Air).

My wife does use Office 365 on her MacBook Pro but she has also been clear of the problem.

Sorry to say I cannot define what has changed here just hoping it stays that way!

Confirmed - have been running 10.15.3 on my iMac since it became available. The problem has not reoccurred and all is working properly. Happy camper here.

I concur. Since the latest update I have not experienced the problem either. Everything appears to be running smoothly.

I have seen some improvement, but ironically Word and Excel seem to be working better than Pages or Numbers. However a complex excel sheet was saved last night and not found initially this morning, but only after searching for the worksheet by name was it found, then would not open until rebooting. Happy to see it was not lost. Rebooting usually corrects the issue, but not always, and after a few hours, pdf's, page files, word files, numbers files all are not openable.
