Dolby vision apple tv+

It looks like Apple is well aware of the issue, the 5th episodes of See, The Morning Show & For All Mankind are now in HDR only, no more Dolby Vision despite the fact that the show description in the Apple TV app indicates Dolby Vision. i have been working with both Apple and TCL to get this issue sorted. Appears to affect mainly Apple content as I can play the same DV content through the Vudu app on Appletv with no Issue for the same scenes.

I have been through full factory resets with both my TCL 55R625 TV and my Apple TV 4K and the problem remains exactly like before. Tech reviewers have said Dolby has admitted there are problems with DV over HDMI cables with some manufacturers and that firmware updates are needed. But some of these reports go back to 2017 so I don’t know if any fixes were ever released.

Same issue here but after reset and reinstall TVOS, Dolby Vision are back to all episodes:)

Yes, reset and restore TV OS and all DV content will resume back as normal.

Here are some examples of Dolby Vision tone mapping or raised black display errors in Apple TV4K Dolby Vision content on my TCL 55R625 TV. It only happens in very dark scenes and only with Dolby Vision content from Apple TV over HDMI.

It doesn’t matter which Dolby Vision preset is used but I’ve tried all different settings and a factory reset.

I’m using the Dolby Vision 4K60hz setting. Match Range and Match Rate we’re off for this test but it’s the same Problem if I choose 4KSDR and turn Match Range On.

I have tried 3 different certified Dolby Vision high speed cables for what that’s worth... And different HDMI ports.

I googled tv plus support. Followed a long series of links until I was asked to enter a phone number. They rang me straight back and took it from there. They watched through an ipad as I demonstrated it and then sent a link by email to upload a video I took of the screen. An hour later after I uploaded it they called to say that they were working on the problem and would advise. This was about 23 hours ago.

In my case, I have to switch to a different format than Dolby Vision with Match Range turned off since only certain Dolby Vision mastered titles have the issue. In SDR without match range, the problem goes away for me.

My Apple TV worked perfectly up until recently with Dolby Vision. Then I started getting the photo negative look on the switching to dark scenes whether watching Apple tv + or Netflix I can confirm I am using the best high speed 8k Belkin cable I have tested it running straight into the TV with the issue still being present. I have twice reset the box to no avail. I can confirm that I have run this through a Sony STR-1080 and my new Denon AVR-X3600h receiver both with no improvement to the result. This is very disappointing considering the price of this unit. I can confirm that Dolby Vision plays back perfectly through my LG TV app and also through my Amazon fire tv 4k firestick. I can confirm if I turn the Dolby vision off there is no problem but this is defeating the object Apple need to admit there are problems with this box and remove the Dolby vision compatible advertising or fix the issue. I am not Apple bashing as I have other Apple items ie iPad pro 2018 iMac mini 2018 but this issue needs fixing.

I find that HDR is unreliable & inconsistent on the new AppleTV series. For example, "The Morning Show", "See" and "For All Mankind" vary by episode. Some episodes will launch in HDR while most of them don't..... It's ALWAYS the same episodes! Dolby Vision only had issues in the aTV+ app for me but those have all been resolved. If you can’t play any Dolby vision then it’s either a bad Apple TV box, a bad cable, settings that were changed for the HDMI port on your TV (UHD deep colour disabled), or out dated software in your tv (some Sony TVs had a messed up implementation of Dolby vision that made it not work with devices connected to HDMI ports).

Yeah, same problem here with DV getting a negative look. Hope Apple sorts this out.

I had a similar issue with my Oppo 203 over the summer when a firmware update caused the player to do the DV processing instead of just passing it on to the TV. It was completely messed up though and saturated with pink, not just a problem with dark scenes.

Thank god somebody else has this issue my Apple TV 4K used to work perfectly with Dolby Vision, I invested in many Dolby Vision films off the Apple store now the unit is incapable of playing dolby Vision back properly from any source including Netflix. The most annoying thing is Apple don't seem to acknowledge there is a fault with this unit. I have done the same as you and turned Dolby Vision off. I think mine is still under guarantee so I will try and take it back to the Apple store for a refund as the unit not fit for purpose of playing back Dolby Vision as advertised. I have followed all advice on these forums ref resetting, re-downloaded the software to no avail.
