AirPod Pro Microphone Call Quality

Since using the Airpod Pros this week and on calls people have been commenting on how they are having a hard time hearing me. This is something that never happened with my regular AirPods. From what I can gather it sounds like the external noise cancellation or noise reduction algorithm is getting confused with the noise outside and my voice and effectively cutting out or reducing my voice and boosting the background noise.

Are others running into this problem? The common complaint I’m getting when talking on the phone with the Airpod Pro is that the background noise is too loud.

Yes it is happening to me as well!! People say I am muffled and cannot hear me very well. 😡

I paid a lot for these and to have the Pro name there should not be any muffling when using the mic to talk!!! Come on Apple..........

What I hate about these expensive airpods Pro is that making call sucks for such premium price. People from the other side of the line always complain about I'm in a noisy environment drowning my voice, when in fact it is not in reality, but the mic in these airpods pro are amplifying high pitch leather shoe footsteps which were 60 meters away from me in an empty mall.

Same problem with Airpods Pro during calls, other side can not undersetand me when I am talking.

I also have a 2nd gen Airpods with a broken mic (only functioning left one) and calls are way better than with the pro version.

I have latest firmware, did every trick trying to solve the problem, but nothing worked for me. Will try to exchange or return

I have reached out to Apple support on Twitter multiple times. I've done everything they've recommended. The latest iOS and firmware 4A400 did not help. I even mailed in my AirPod Pros to their repair center to try to fix the horrific background noise my callers hear from my side. Apple canceled the repair saying there was nothing to repair. I don't understand why this is still a problem for so many people and Apple hasn't produced a fix! I told Twitter support I wanted a replacement, but I was referred to my local store to see if they can do something. So far I'm feeling abandoned by Apple with an expensive set of AirPods that I can only use for music. Grrr!

I have three pairs of iPod pros, and the microphone doesn’t work in the first two (although occasionally it does come back in), and is starting to get flaky with the third.

I have many different kinds of iPad devices so I was thinking maybe there was a problem with one. I’ve tried resetting them with no luck.

I wonder if this could be a similar problem?

At first, it was enough to do a reset per Apples instructions. When the poor microphone quality returned, the reset did not work anymore. I was able to get good microphone quality back by allowing the headphones to drain the battery fully, clearing my iphone and Mac bluetooth of the headphones, reseting the headphones, then repairing to the iPhone. Works for now but if the issue persists this is untenable. I plan to use the warranty if the microphone craps out again. This is the 3rd time the microphones become useless for me.

I bought my APP in June 2021. After people complained about the microphone picking up background noises and not hearing me I sent my APP to apple for a review a week later.

Since June 2021, I have replaced my APP pairs 4 times. It never got fixed. I made the senior apple technician mail Ireland about this issue (since she had the same issue as an Apple employee and was curious about the upcoming solution) and she told me herself that Apple is aware of this issue and is trying its best to find a solution with upcoming updates (she told me this before the newest 4A400 update).

In conclusion, nothing happened and nothing is fixed. People still cannot hear me during calls if I am outside the house. The microphone quality is worse than the 3rd party $1 no-brand headphones.

I am already tired of sending my APP to Apple and letting it go. What I am curious about is how not everyone is having the same problem? How is the brand new replacement APP having the same issue? And why isn't Apple making an official statement about this if they are so aware!

Thanks for the step by step

I´ve tried it twice, but problem stills there.

If you are in a quiet an unwindy place, seems to work quite well, but if there is normal noise around (traffic, city, other people talking) or in a windy environment (little windy), a simple voice note is unintelligible even for myself.

People complaints that can not underestand me in the phone calls

I bought this pair abuot 10 days ago. I also have a 2nd gen airpods that works well, but have a broken mic.

I have tried in my Iphone 12 and in an Iphone X I use for running. Same problem.

I think is a HW failure. Will try to exchange next week (I´m in Argentina and do not have official Apple Store, but official reseller)

Update to my original post above: The microphone has become useless after a 4th reset and other fix attempts. All signs point to a bug. Planning to return the APP, but people are reporting Apple just give you another set of faulty headphones. Bought the non-Pro AirPods, hopefully the microphone lasts.

These methods fixed this same problem problem try it.

-first find some acetone alcohol, ear cleaning sticks(with cotton tips), soft brush.

-then bring both AirPod Pros and on the bottom of both the earphones clean the small slits and clean carefully with the soft brush to remove unwanted dirts.

-put the cotton tips in some acetone and clean all three mics on both of the earphones; these mics are found on the outer part of the upper side and in the inner part facing the ears and the bottom part on the charging tip terminal.

After all of these cleanings the AirPod pro will be good as new.
