AirPod Pro Microphone Call Quality

Since using the Airpod Pros this week and on calls people have been commenting on how they are having a hard time hearing me. This is something that never happened with my regular AirPods. From what I can gather it sounds like the external noise cancellation or noise reduction algorithm is getting confused with the noise outside and my voice and effectively cutting out or reducing my voice and boosting the background noise.

Are others running into this problem? The common complaint I’m getting when talking on the phone with the Airpod Pro is that the background noise is too loud.

Yes it is happening to me as well!! People say I am muffled and cannot hear me very well. 😡

I paid a lot for these and to have the Pro name there should not be any muffling when using the mic to talk!!! Come on Apple..........

also can someone suggest a good pair of earphones which can actually let me take calls when i am on the move or in a public place? whole purpose of having a wireless earphone is defeated if one has to use them in a private space without any ambient noise.

I will just think this is money down the drain and buy a model and brand which fulfils my need.

I just was given the Pro for Christmas 2022. I work from home and have always used my airpods because I make phone calls throughout the day and am hard of hearing. I love the sound quality of the Pros, but I can't use them for phone calls. I am very disappointed. I have tried every suggested fix and am downloading the latest software update. Has anyone been given any hope this will be corrected?

I guess this is one of the solutions worth trying? I'm generally disappointed with this nevertheless, considering the price we all paid, one would expect better quality. Then again, I shouldn't expect too much from Apple, since every single MBP and iPhone my family has ever owned has had some kind of faulty parts.

Had the same. Luckily I realized it with 40 days left on my 1 year warranty and Apple replaced them with zero hassle. Actually, a very pleasant customer service experience. If it’s too late for you, try updating the firmware. Not all iPhones update firmware automatically and when using the microphone there is a difference in quality with the different settings. Best option: noise canceling and transparency off. Also, to reduce further damage, avoid getting feedback when you have transparency mode on and an AirPod cupped in your hand. Bottom line: if you’re still under warranty, bring them back… Good Luck!

Same here, I am on a lot of calls and some I can do in while walking or in the gym. This used to work well before on my Jabra sport earpieces but wanted the AirPods as the noise cancellation is great. It ends up with me back in 1998 with holding the iphone up at my head for the meeting participants to hear me. This is absolutely ridiculous. My Jabra is 5 years old and they have better microphone than this overpriced, gold laced pos. Sorry but this is not good enough for the premium we pay

Few months back I noticed that my voice fades in-between during calls, also I tested same by sending voice notes.

I went to Apple store then and they replaced my airpods stating that there is a Quality control program going on with some defective pieces(my 1 year warranty was expired)

I started noticing same after few months with new airpods, and today when I went to Apple store, they tested my airpods and both L & R sides failed their test, but unfortunately the quality program is no longer available and they couldn’t replace for free.

I thought of buying 2nd Gen Airpods Pro, before buying I did same voice notes test with new sample model in store itself and found that mic quality is still not very impressive, I was able to show the same to Apple store representatives and they kind of acknowledged it with new model as well.

How is the microphone so bad on the AirPod pros? I can’t use my airpods for work or personal calls because the person on the other end can ear what’s happening in the walls every direction around me 5x better then I can yet I sound like I’m talking into an empty family sized soup can. Very disappointed in this Apple product. Would not recommend.

The headphones is great for music and noise cancellation, it’s terrible for calling. I’m disappointed beyond words, I’ve always been a android guy but work forced me to go iPhone, if this is the quality they sell for that premium price it’s a rip off. Will go buy a Jabra or sennheiser this weekend, the EarPods fits well in the drawer

DO NOT PURCHASE THESE HEADPHONES IF YOU PLAN TO USE THEM FOR ANY PHONE CALLS. If you are outside the other person will not hear a single word you say. They are awful. Anytime someone calls I have to take them off, put them away and switch to my iPhone speaker. Absolute garage. People constantly Hangup on me because how poor the quality is.
