AirPods Pros making crackling static noises

I recently received my new AirPod Pro ear buds. First off let me say the noise cancellation is a transforming. That aside, the old problem of making a popping sound followed by a buzz seems to still plague these ear phones.

For reference, I left them in the charging case plugged in overnight. I had them in for about 2 hours at work and then they started I started noticing a faint popping/clicking noise that starts in the right then the left and is a single pop in each ear.  If they are in transparency mode, it pops then has a 1.5-2 second buzzing sound.  If it is in noise cancellation mode it merely pops.  It will do this in one ear, then repeat about 5-10 seconds later on the other ear.

I tried alternating between transparency mode and noise cancellation mode.  I tried playing music and pausing music. I placed them back into the case and took them out again.  I contacted Apple Support in order to work through this and am attempting to figure out what's going on.

I was able to get it to momentarily stop by placing them back in the charging case for about 30 seconds to a minute and then back into my ears. Has anyone seen this on the past models, or with the current ones, and know why it happens?

A particularly helpful Genius in the main DC Apple Store seems to have found a solution to the crackling issue. After describing the problem and litany of troubleshooting measures I had taken, he said "Hold on a sec, I think I can fix that." He came back with alcohol wipes and some gray fun-tak (aka adhesive putty). After wiping down the white plastic parts with alcohol, he very gently pressed a small amount of the fun-tak against each of the black microphone covers to pull out tiny pieces of debris. Apparently these microphones are ridiculously sensitive, so if anything gets in there it screws up the whole noise cancelling feedback loop.

I'm only 24 hours out from the repair, but all seems well so far. The main takeaway for me... don't put your AirPod pros into your pocket unsheathed. And generally don't expose them to any kind of dirt or dust.

i am having the very same issue. i just tested it while reading a few of these to see if i can fix it. it only happens when i'm noise cancelling or transparency mode. it almost sounds like the internals are shaking around with a few clicks per second. quite a few people are having this issue and i'm not sure if maybe it's just a faulty pair or if they're all doing it.

And THAT is where I am with mine. The one that was replaced once already is doing it again. Except now, I’m out of warranty and am stuck with less than stellar, expensive air buds that I have to use in “off” mode - I gave my daughter the last version prior to the pros being released and she is happy - $100 less, too.

Now what? We are just stuck?? So upsetting .. I’m a diehard Apple user of all things they make .. upgrade at every chance bc I’m a nerd that way .. want the new iPad pro.. or the air.. prob both.. normally would be dying to Order 😩😩😠😠

I started having the crackling and popping sound about a week into use. It is just in the right bud and only when I'm in transparency or noise cancellation modes. It goes away when the modes are off. I've had it stop while listening to audio books, but it always starts when playing music. I tried resetting them, but didn't stop the issue.

Apple, please help. I have a set of the newer generation of Airpod Pro and the left pod creates a terrible buzzing/vibrating sound in my ears. It is nearly painful and it is as if the entire speaker is blown. This is really a problem given how expensive these Airpods are. I have done a complete reset of the case, I have used the "forget this device" and re-paired the pods with both phone and iPad and nothing is working. I am to the point where I cannot use these Airpods and it is a total shame.

I am having the same issue,a scratchy sound is there in my left AirPod pro, seems like some lose particle is inside the airpod. But the irritating sound vanishes once transparency and noise cancelling is kept In off in either state. Also there is weird sound while touching the outer body of AirPod.

kindly suggest way forward as it seems I have wasted my Rs.23000 INR.

My ist generation is still working fine with no complaints.

Simply, Apple should not have taken the step to release and sell a product to its customers for profit, knowing that it was faulty in the 1st place.

The only thing that amazes me more than apple taking advantage of their customers ... is how compliant and non aggressive their costumers are. After spending their hard earned money for a luxury item like a $250 headphones... everyone just sits with their arms crossed or head down in dispar. like a kid who got bullied and got their money taken by the bully, but sad because he knows he didn’t have the balls to stand up for himself. So basically, apple knows that they can sell you anything they want and you all just going to bend backwards. Just a bunch of babies.,.

There is a defect on these AirPod pros, and Apple need to fix them. The trouble shoots Apple suggests don't do anything. And If I may say, Why do I need to keep trouble shooting for a $250 item? I owned, and still own a Samsung wireless headphones, which I do not need to do any trouble shoots. They need to recall these AirPods pros, and Personally I'd like my money back for these, and wait for AirPods Pro Gen 3. This has been one of my biggest disappointment with Apple. I'm still waiting for a call from apple with trouble with the replacement I've received, as of right now they are 2 hours behind on the scheduled call.

Apple told me they want to but can’t ship a replacement to my location and advised to go via a service centre. Service centre in Poland (Cortland) was holding onto my Aipods Pro for a week until I asked about the status- they said they’re still diagnosing... Then I contacted Apple and when they asked them they responded in 5min saying the headphones are dirty and they’re sending them back- Apple said they can’t do anything. I’ve been around for for a while and I’ve never experience such a bad and frustrating customer service.

I recently bought my Airpod Pro and after a month started experiencing this really annoying buzzing sound from the right year. Many sources say I should go the apple store, but I'm in Kazakhstan right now and not able to even visit the apple store and can' even travel because of this Covid stuff. @AppleSupport pls help. Is it possible to ship a new right airpod to Kazakhstan?
