Looks like no one’s replied in a while. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question.

Severe battery drain continues, iOS 13.2.2, iPad Pro

Any new suggestions for a fix? I’ve tried all those listed in online articles.

Have had this problem since installing iOS 13, and 13.2.2 did NOT fix this problem. I unplugged my iPad at 6:15am (after charging to 100% overnight). Started using it to check the news. At 7:45, battery was 72% and dropping fast. it’s 8:15am and I’m at 62%. I’ll not get to noon without full depletion at this rate. I’m having to charge at least twice per day or stay attached to wall plug.

I installed 13.2.2 a few days ago, so apps should have had time to “catch up” with the release. Backlight is set low (too darned low for comfortable viewing). Safari is the big user at 87%, followed by Mail at 12%. No other apps are open. Safari has 4 tabs open, two of which are Apple. I continue to hope (foolishly maybe) that each new release will fix the problem, which began with installation of iOS 13. In another discussion, someone mentions re-doing a setting (clearing something?). I have not tried that yet, but don’t recall specifics and can’t find that discussion. Any help will be appreciated. iPad is my primary computer, and I need to be able to move around with it during the day. I don’t use Siri (some discussions blame Siri, I blame Safari).

If you tried the commonly available advice (acknowledging that you’ve not listed the actual mitigation that you’ve attempted), If not tried already, I would suggest that you attempt restoring your iPad from iTunes on your PC/Mac. This will completely reinstall a fresh copy of iPadOS.

An OTA update only replaces changed portions of the OS - so, if corrupted by a previous update, a further OTA-update or system restart is unlikely to resolve an existing system corruption. By contrast, as previously noted, a full restoration from your PC/Mac replaces the entire OS.

Provided that you have completed a backup prior to the restore process, you can simply restore your data after fixing the OS.

I hope this helps.

For any apps installed onto your iPad and do not need Background App Refersh, toggle this OFF.

If you have lots a Website tabs open, even if not viewing them, the Website data is still being constantly refreshed in the browser.

If you have 50 or even more apps in the background app switcher, I would pare the number of apps way down!

Another thing that saves battery life and improves the performance of iOS is to toggle ON Reduced Motion in the Settings app under General.

This both turns off and minimises most of the iPadOS motion graphics “eye candy” which can eat up both CPU and RAK cycles and isn't really necessary to use iPadOS.

iPadOS will run better and faster with all of the motion graphics toggled OFF.

First, thank you for your advice. Really appreciated.

Second. This might be Not a common problem, but the obvious thing is that my iPad began draining battery much faster with the SAME settings it had before the iPadOS 13.2.2, and already with iPadOS.

I always used the best settings for longer battery life. No background update for example.

And still I noticed Obvious battery drain after this exact update.

And while you decided this is not a common problem, there are 77 more people with the same question just in this thread, and more in the internet if you google. Even articles on that.

So you just can hardly deny the issue exists.

If this issue was a widespread as you claim, then these iPad/iPhone support communities would be inundated with similar postings.

This isn't even close to happening!

And some of those 77 people are repeat reply Posters, so that number maybe even less than you counted.

This is not a common and widespread issue.

This iPad battery drain issue is NOT being widely reported by any or all of the major tech report guys on YouTube and this is not being reported in any of the major tech or Apple Web media sites/ blogs/vlogs.

Just because this maybe happening to a minority group of iPad users doesn’t mean tbis is happening to every iPad and iPad user/owner on the entire globe!

So I did submit to iPad Feedback, linked above.

Here is my message if you are looking for a model.

I am running iOS 13.2.3 on my iPad Pro.

Since installation the battery has been draining very rapidly, at a rate of about 15% per hour.

A battery charge lasted much longer under previous iOS versions.

I have reinstalled the operating system and restored the contents, and have adjusted various settings, to no avail.

I hope that a fix for this issue, which other users are reporting on Apple's iPad forum, is forthcoming because it is seriously impacting my use of this device in a negative way.

Thanks.

If you are suffering continuous unexplained battery drain subsequent to an OTA update - and standard restart/reset procedures are unsuccessful in correcting the problem - you should (a) ensure you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup of your device, then (b) conduct a full system restore using iTunes from your PC or Mac.

This will perform a total reset and reinstallation of the most up-to-date (or optionally, the last “signed”) version of iOS/iPadOS - then fully restore your data from the backup.

This should resolve any issues created by the previous attempted update.
