Airpods Pro wireless charge not working

Is anybody else having an issue with the Airpods Pro not charging wirelessly? When I place it on my wireless charging pad (Samsung, Choetech, and Yootech brands) they all charge it for a few minutes, but then the Airpods Pro stop taking the charge. I've gone through two brand new pairs of Airpods Pro and neither of them work.

I'm pretty sure this is related, but when I open up the case and the pop-up window of the Airpods Pro shows up on the iPhone, the icons of the Airpods buds will flicker between showing a normal battery status and then a red exclamation mark.

I've reset both sets of Airpods Pro. At the time both were on the most current firmware (584, 588).

As I've stated, I've gone through two brand new pairs (both bought from the an Apple Store one week apart) and both show these issues. I'm going to return this pair and just wait till all the bugs are sorted out.

found this in a thread:

My anker powerwave 7.5 both stand and pad can only charge

intermittently. I asked their customer service, they said it's not

compatible with airpods pro due to overheating issues. Once the airpods

pro is overheating the charge will stop, and it will resume once it

cools down. SO my current fix is just leave it as it is, it will be

fully charged in few hours anyway. I guess only apple can fix this

overheating problem. The cut off temperature of airpods pro is lower

than that of iphone, the iphone still holds the charge even its body is

quite hot.

Yes, this is not a solution. I'm happy it worked for you and thanks for sharing the concept but I am not putting a wet nap on my $300 headphones and buying a PC fan to cool it down. I'll plug them in. It's one of at least two major product flaws (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250887615) that Apple has yet to come out and admit. The one that I just posted is now in mainstream news so I expect an answer from Apple soon.

I have two open cases w/ AppleCare. One about this and one about the ANC thread I sent above.

Hello,

Are you aware that the charging light goes out after a few seconds, but they are still charging? See this:

You can charge your Wireless Charging Case with a Qi-certified charging mat. Be sure to place your case on the charger with the status light facing up and with the lid closed. The status light should show the current charge level for 8 seconds. If you have AirPods Pro, you can tap the case when it's on the charging mat to see whether your AirPods Pro are charging (amber light) or fully charged (green light).

I’m still waiting for the firmware update to happen. I’ve read that you just wait and it comes, but it’s not happening here??

Has it happened for anyone one here, what circumstances did you create for it to occur? It all seems so vague, I wish I could force it somehow.

APP are really growing on me now. I’ve learned that you absolutely have to have a perfect seal to the ear canal. Even the largest standard tips just don’t reliably seal to my big ears. I’m working on modding it to some memory foam tips somehow.

Also, I don’t use the standard Apple Music app as it forces use of the totally rubbish fixed EQ settings which are all dire.

I use a fantastic app called EQu to play my mp3 music. It has a phenomenal DSP graphic equalizer which works superbly well with limitless EQ possibilities. It makes these APP really sing for me with very ample low and hi response. Just be careful not to have too much gain else iPhone suffers internal digital headroom issues and clipping(screen goes red to indicate this). It does require some understanding of audio stuff. Start with it set to flat then make small changes. You can save unlimited EQ curve presets.....

2C54 was pulled due to bugs. 2B588 is now current.

My AirPods had the ANC issue (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250887615) and the wireless charging issue across THREE DIFFERENT SETS that were swapped out. They all have the same issues. APP do not wirelessly charge properly on most Qi-certified devices and this has been proven on other sites and by Apple internally (from what they told me). Honestly, it's false advertising or a major glitch that they again don't want to acknowledge.

2C54 did not fix anything and in fact made things a lot worse -- which is why it doesn't exist anymore except if it's already installed on your device. The ANC issue is still here (never has been touched) and the wireless charging issue is still here (on all firmwares across the entire set of devices). There are a few chargers that do seem to work with the APP but I can confirm that they do NOT work with all Qi-certified chargers and this includes two that Apple sells: "Belkin BOOST UP!" and "mophie wireless charging pad" -- they are sold in Apple stores and online and will NOT properly charge the APP. Not a defective unit, not an issue with the charger -- either a bug or all APPs have a Qi compliance issue or other hardware fault across the line.

i have googled a bit and apparently the issue is also with the AirPods 2 (Wireless charging ) .

also 2 different issues:

  1. APP and AP2 don’t charge or even loosing charge while charging
  2. Wireless chargers led indicator is turning off and on intermittently but however APP and AP2 are still charging ( but takes a lot of time)

i have 2 different wireless charger. One is a cheap one from China for 5$ (only the coils and board) and with that I experienced the first issue.

the other one is called nanami selling on amazon and with that I experienced the second issue.

some People saying they don’t have any issues with specific wireless charger like (Samsung, baesus).

so it Must be problem with the charger and the AirPods. AirPods because they overheat. And maybe the body temperature like heat is enough. The charger because it’s cutting off the power because of that heat?

the yootech charger you mentioned are promoting they can charge Airpods because they have temperature and overheating control.

Ok I solved the problem!

(kinda solved it)

its definitely overheating!

I wrapped my AirPods Pro (which are wrapped in a silicon case) in a wet tissue and put it on the wireless charger.

In front of it I put a PC vent. So I did everything possible to cool it down.

And it worked.

The LED indicator of the charger was constantly green (=charging) until the battery was full. I charged from around 65% to 100% in approx. 1 hour.

Still slow but my issue is gone. Charger is not changing the led status light intermittently and APP charged without any problems.

That means there is no need to buy a new charger. You just need to cool it down while charging.

I am posting in response to the request by Shanesnh for feedback.

I ought my APP on the first day they were available to be ordered. I have gone through all of the firmware updates. Post-2B584 I have had the same ANC and fidelity issues as so many. I had my original APP replaced after the 2B588 update and the sound is better, but the ANC issue persists.

I also was one of the early complainers at this forum, and received a call from an Apple information-gatherer who quizzed me as to exactly what I was experiencing and when it started.

That said, I have never had a problem with wireless charging. I am primarily using the Aukey USB-C 10W Fast Wireless charging pad (model LC-16), but I have a bunch of chargers and they all seem to work just fine. Additionally, I have encased the APP case in the Incase AirPods Pro Case with Woolenex, which is sold on the Apple Store. Even with this extra layer, wireless charging works without issue.

As mentioned here, the indicator LED on the case goes off after a few seconds. You can double tap the case in the area of the indicator LED and it will briefly glow green or orange depending on whether it has fully charged.

Thanks for the reply and I am aware of that. Part of the reason I know the Airpods Pro (APP)are not taking charge after a few minutes is that 1) no matter how long I've wirelessly charged it never went past 87% charge and 2) the light on the wireless chargers (plural, as I've tried 4 wireless charging pad from 4 different manufacturers) would turn on and off, ultimately not sending a charge or not detecting the APP after about 5-8 minutes.

I'm on my third pair of APP and ordered a wireless charging pad that specifically says it'll work with APP. Will update when I get the new pad.

@MrBill3 do your wirless charge properly? I have two pads that charge only at 5W and two that charge at 5W/7.5W/10W depending on the device and none work for more than a few minutes.
