AirPods Pro weird noise on one ear

Hi, I got a pair of AirPods Pro and as soon as out of the box one ear makes a weird scratching sound in noice-canceling mode. The weird scratching noise disappears if you are in regular no-noise-canceling mode. I tried another pair and it was also ok - no weird noise. I contacted Apple and they are reviewing the issue, but definitely there is something wrong in those. I also noticed the right problematic ear was running batteries twice as fast as the left one. Anyone with similar problems? Annoying as they are brand new and were bought for the noise canceling feature in the 1st place~

got my AirPods pro today and having the same issue on the right speaker. A weird scratching noise like static. It only happens on active noise canceling and transparency mode. Tried to reset them but the problem insists.

I have the same problem guys, but I have only noticed it when I change modes from the Airpods. And some times when I change from Transparency to Noise Cancellation through the Airpods, I get that scratchy noise on the right ear for like a second or two. Then the left ear changes to noise cancellation while the right ear does not. 2-3 seconds later the mode returns to transparency mode (feels like it resets to it). The same happened while I was changing from noise cancellation to transparency mode. It never happened while I was jumping modes from my iPhone.

At times it sounds like there is something lose inside the problematic side, but there is nothing lose. When I run the test it tells me the tip on the affected side needs to be adjusted or replaced, so another suspicion I have, as the tip ir perfectly fine, is that the mic responsible for the noise canceling and transparency mode is somehow affected. Either the “chamber” where it should be “isolated” got busted, so it captures sounds it shouldn’t or the mic is just malfunctioning and when turned off, there is no weird noise. Guess I’ll have to wait for the covid-19 loco down to be over and try to get them replaced.

I seem to be having a warbling issue on the right hand side too. Seems to stop doing it if I remove the silicon sleeve. Sounds like the movement sensor is affected as when I move my head around in a circle then it warble pings with the movement, that or something else.

10min later...

I just spoke to a person on the Apple Support line and they have kindly sent a replacement (it's a deposit scheme as you have to send the faulty one back but you're refunded the money once they receive it). Thankful that this is available at this difficult time.

Not fixed with 13.5, actually after my airpods worked fine for about 2 hours after the upgrade now the problem is worse than ever. The left airpod pro creates a vibration in my ear canal even when i speak to someone close by. It is extremely annoying and I am pretty sure that the problem has to do with the hardware and the design of the AirPods Pro.

I have the exact same issue. It started this week.

Whenever I call or listen to music, I start hearing the weird sound on the right airpod only. It gets worst when I touch it, every single time my finger touches the external part of the airpord, there is this interference like sound.

I called apple, we did the troubleshooting steps including resetting and disconnecting from the phone/device but it happens no matter where they are connected. The same issue occurs if I use an iPhone, Macbook, iPad or even an android device.

For me it's a hardware related issue but they are asking me to take the airpods to an apple store. In Mexico we are in phase 3 of the pandemic and most stores, like the apple ones are closed! I do have an apple care and I'm deeply disappointed because I'm not getting a solution.

Funny the problem spread to my other AirPod Pro just after I received my replacement and I had to get that one swapped out via AppleCare (have to say they were very helpful in my case, on both occasions).

I have a suspicion that this problem might have something to do when you take them out both ears and hold them in one hand to put them back in the case and there is really loud feedback that might blow the speaker as they are close to one another and active as they think they are still in your ear pressed against your closed hands.

I might be wrong but that is my suspicion of what could be causing the issues. That or a failed motion/proximity sensor.

I've got this exact same issue too. If I talk too loud, breathe weirdly, or even clench my jaw there will be an intensely annoying burst of static. Left ear only. I thought for a minute I had blown the speaker but I've noticed a lot of people have the same issue and have solved it by forgetting and reconnecting the Bluetooth. Sadly, that didn't work for me.

Any other suggestions or workarounds?

This problem started in February with the left AirPod, as time passed it was getting more and more noticeable to a point were it got unbearable, I was waiting for a new firmware to be released hoping that this would correct the issue but it didn’t and then the right AirPod started doing the same exact thing so it was time to visit an Apple service center were both of them were replaced.

I have exactly the same issue with my right Airpods Pro.

Weird scratching / echoing noise, sometimes to the extent I can feel it shaking in both NC and Transparency but not in Off mode.

Apple support is sending me new "ear tips" not new "AirPods Pro" to see if that fixes it which is ridiculous because we already tried the full set of small, medium, large eartips and even switching the ear tip with the left side (which works fine) did not resolve the issue.

Now I need to wait a week or so for those eartips to arrive and if they do not work, need to call again to make a replacement.
