Why Would I Archive Email in my Trash Folder?

Ever since the iOS 13 update, when I go to the Trash folder in iOS Mail for my Gmail account and select Edit and Select All, the only option is to Archive. Why would I ever archive mail in my Trash folder???

If I click Edit and manually select each message, then the option to Delete is available. But that is a real pain when 100+ messages need to deleted!

Also, I see the spinning wheel and "checking for mail" message a lot more often since the iOS 13 updates. I can't help but believe this is draining the battery faster than it should.

Apple, please fix iOS Mail!

Thanks. But can you tell me what setting needs to be changed in Gmail on the web? I haven't changed any setting here with regards to delete function or imap. Prior to iOS 13, I used to have the option to go to Trash folder, edit, select all, and delete all emails. Now I only see archive unless I manually select each mail in Trash folder in which case I only see delete option.
