SERIES 5: Can’t use Siri to send messages

Apple Watch Series 5. WatchOS 6.1. iOS 13.2.3

When using Siri to send a new message, I get a message on the watch that says “Sorry, there was a problem with the app” and it shows a button that says “Open Messages.”

When I press the button, messages flashes for a second then crashes. So, as of now, it’s impossible to compose a new message on the watch.

I asked a friend to try this with his Series 2, running an older OS and it works fine.

Apple has has escalated this issue to engineering and I’m waiting to hear back from them.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

I’m having the EXACT same problem. After days of searching for answers, I came across your post! Makes me feel better that it’s not just my watch. I have called Apple and they’ve “escalated” my situation and I’m now waiting on a call for this upcoming Friday. I’m tempted to just take my watch into an Apple store because that’s what I’ll probably end up having to do anyway

I have the same problem. I bought my Apple Watch Series 5 in late October. It worked fine for a few weeks then I started getting the same error message. I talked to 4 different Apple Support staff members but no one could resolve my issue. I finally went to an Apple Store and eventually received a replacement yesterday. To my disappointment, after going through the time-consuming task of updating the software on the watch to IOS 6.1 and pairing it to my phone, I am still getting the same error message. Hopefully Apple releases an update to correct this soon. It’s quite frustrating that I can’t use the watch for the main reason I bought it. This is my first Apple Watch and may be my last.

Thanks for pointing me to this thread GT.

EE have tried their best but ultimately told me to take it back to the store for a replacement. Not sure what good it will do if it’s going to have the same software...

P.S Apple were less than useful when I rang for help. :-/
