Without creating a bullet list, how can I use the dot symbol from bullet lists as I please?

I'd like to use the dot as a symbol, to insert where I please, but without creating a bullet list. Tried starting a bullet list and thought I'd be able to copy/paste the dot, but it won't let me do so. After inserting an oval/circle from shapes and making it tiny enough to be a dot, it then becomes difficult to insert into text because it's still acting as a shape. I can copy/paste the bullet dot in MSWord but am flummoxed here in Pages. Please advise.

Also, for the first 3-5 lines of the page, how can I have the text on the left all align left and the text on the right all align right? I tried two columns but it doesn't actually align all the way to the right, only does it on the left side. And, the text does not line up horizontally, very frustrating. Any advice would be appreciated.

Apple never designed Pages as a Word clone, and a great many features in Word — simply are not available within Pages. Those list images are an example, where with Pages they can only be used in lists. Likewise, Shapes are not intended as inline text objects as Pages does not automatically scale or position the shape when you change the surrounding font size, spacing, or character spacing.

The normal approach to using left and right alignment of text is to select the right-most button in the Alignment section.

Either capitalize on your existing Word experience and stick with Word (or its clone LibreOffice Writer), or stop trying to use Pages like it is Word, and take the time to learn Pages for the functionality that it does provide. In the latter case, Apple has a free book, Pages User Guide for Mac, that may reveal more of Pages than the Help menu, or Pages Support site.
