Calendar events not synched on Apple Watch 4

I see others have been having a problem with the calendar complication not showing events - mine is correctly showing events, but I can't read event details on my watch. When I tap on an upcoming event shown by the calendar complication, I always get a "No events today" entry/card, and when I swipe up on that I get "No upcoming events". I'm synchronized to an Outlook calendar.

This is the second time in a couple of months that the calendar complication has been broken on my Apple watch - very frustrating since it's literally the most important feature on the watch.
