In short: Pls. give http://maps.google.com/?force=canvas a try.

In detail:

Hm..., I myself experienced the issue today for the first time.

I then updated Safari to 13.0.4 without applying Security Update 2019-007 10.13.6 (as there are frightful reports about upgrade failures).

The problem still persists.

So the problem might be caused by some recent changes within Google Maps itself.

There have been similar reports years ago...

Google Maps recommends using 2D mode when experiencing problems with (now default) 3D mode on one of its Maps help pages at https://support.google.com/maps/answer/3031966?hl=en

2D Mode: This Google Maps version may work better on older or lower performance computers. It doesn’t have 3D images or WebGL, and it uses simple zooming and transitions. Open Maps in 2D Mode.

And yes: A bit dull, but working like a charm :-)

I deleted Maps from my computer and could not figure out how to reinstall. After reading all the posts, I typed google maps 2d version and it loaded, so I ADDED that to my favorites. Cannot figure out how to get the logo back, but I can work with this for now until a better fix comes along.. Thanks for all the input everyone has shared. I hope this helps.

Hi brendafromhurst,

Okay, let's try downloading a copy of Firefox and see if it works using a different web browser.

Another thing you could try is to create a new user account and see if you can load google maps this way in Safari.

Finally you could try booting into Safe Mode, hold down the shift key when you boot your mac and release it when you see the login screen. It will say Safe boot in red in the menu bar. Login and see if you can access google maps this way.

I hope this helps.

I don't think this is a google issue. I believe It's an Apple issue.

Hopefully they'll release a fix for this soon.

What's weird is that it works under Safari 13.0.4 using MacOS Catalina for me though.

Have you tried booting into Safe mode, hold down option key at boot to see if it works this way?

Also trying under a new user account just to see if it's not something with your account.

 Hello all,

The Google Maps Team has just announced (3:58 AM ET 12/20/2019) this bug has been fixed.

All users in this thread ought to now try using Safari (version 13.0.4) with Google Maps and their current Mac OS operating system (versions 10.12.0, up to (but not including) the latest version 10.15.2 ).

Those users who have forced Maps into 2D mode, using the link provided in this thread, should (1) Open the Safari browser (version 13.0.4), then open Google Maps by clicking on this link: http://maps.google.com/?force=webgl .  That will open Maps in 3D imagery viewing mode, an keep it in 3D mode in the future.

Note: 3D imagery is only displayed in Satellite/aerial mode, and can be toggled off and on by tapping on the globe icon at the very top above Pegman. You can test 3D/Earth view by zooming all the way out, and you ought to see the Earth as in the screenshot below.

Do post your success reports, along with the version of Mac OS you are using (that will be helpful).

Should MAPS still not be working with the latest version of Safari, please post the particulars.

Thanks to each of you for your patience!

Don't use Foxfire or Chrome either. Will stop in at the Apple Store tonight after things slow down and see if I can squeeze in at the Genius Bar. AppleCare's run out for me.. Will let you know if I find anything out. Never encountered this problem before, and I use the Google maps on my MacBook Pro quite a lot. I'm still running High Sierra, although that shouldn't be an issue.

I have the same problem. Spotted today only. I had some updates as well on the 13th for Safari and macOS security updates.

Same message "A problem repeatedly occurred with "https://www.google.com/maps"

It works fine on Chrome and on Android. Also the built in Maps application of the Macbook works OK.

I have the feeling the Safari update has something to do with it and they should work on a fix themselves.
