CAC use with Mac OS Catalina

My husband and I recently purchased a new MacBook and have tried to use our smart card reader (SCR3310v2.0) to use our CAC and access our military email at home, however, we have been unsuccessful in accessing it on both Chrome and Safari. We have gone through many instructions we could find on militarycac.com and other various sites, but ended up with Chrome not even allowing us access to the site and Safari just repeatedly prompting for the PIN with no progression. Any guidance would be appreciated as this has been frustrating especially since we were planning on also upgrading our desktop in the near future....that may have to be put on hold if we cannot access these sites from these systems.

The Outlook Webmail service asks for the PIN about 15 times before you get the screen to load. Even after the screen is loaded, it will ask several times for a PIN when accessing messages. I don't know why it has to do that. All other sites can be accessed with a single PIN entry.

You should not enable any of the token managers listed on the Military CAC website. Catalina won't work with the CAC if any of the other security tokens are installed. There may be some designed to run on Catalina, but I did not find any when I tried a few months ago. If any are installed from a previous OS, you'll have to remove them.

I just tried some things and I was able to get it to respond with less checking and no one PIN entry if I didn't use the email cert.

This may be because I set up an Identity Preference in Keychain Access that stored the PIN for the cert/website combination. I'm not sure if that was the reason as I can't tell which cert it is using.

It does still constantly ask for the certificate, but doesn't need the PIN.
