view manually entered gps-coordinates in fotos map

dear,

In the imported pictures from my camera (sony coolpix without gps-facilities ) I have to enter the gps-coordinates manually. I do it in the "info"-window of each picture where it works well. However  when I look afterwards in the general menu-option "location" in the left mean menu of fotos i do not see this manual entered locations in the shown map. so I can not  select all the pictures from a same location. However, I see the correct location of each photo separately in the small map in the "info" window. My operating system is 10.15.2, i haven a Mac Pro 13 inch and my pictures are “referenced” (local on my harddisk) and not in the icloud.

Thanks ,

Johan

hey Leonie,

yes, I imported all my photos as referenced photos with the option "Copy Photos into the Photos Library" on.

I dit not perform  the second action "file>consolidate" because this action copies all referenced files into the Photos library  and the consolidated pictures are no longer "referenced".  So I will lose a  lot of space on my harddisk because each picture is twice saved on it. ( see for instance https://www.idownloadblog.com/2017/05/03/how-to-photos-for-mac-referenced-mode/ )

I tried the action "file>consolidate" with only one picture selected and .... yes,  for this picture the problem was solved ! I see the location on the mean map and I have a solution.

So i assume that only consolidate pictures can be seen on the mean map ,even if the gps-coordinates are stored - and also visible  with another application- in the EXIF data from the referenced photo itself.

I thank you very much for the help .

If the referenced files are on the same volume as your Photos Library, the APFS file system should take care of the duplicates and use the storage only once.

But you could try another work-around. You could create an automator service to show selected photos in Apple's Maps.app. This way you will see them as pins on the maps and can use the better maps of the Maps.app:

Did you import the phos as referenced photos, without copying them into the Photos Library?

Photos 5.0 on macOS 10.15.2 Catalina does not show the photos on the Map, if the photos have been imported with the option "Copy Photos into the Photos Library" disabled.

When I copy the referenced photos into the library with the command "File > Consolidate", the photos will appear on the map after a while.
