If you set up the Mac with FileVault enabled—FileVault is password protected.

(As long as you just let the machine sleep, after the intial filevault password—you are good to go.)

Use FileVault to encrypt the startup disk on your Mac - Apple ...

To continue—

From >System Preferences>Security & Privacy>General>> uncheck the Disable Auto log-in

>System Preferences>Users & Groups>Admin/user>Log-in Options>Automatic Login>ON

(unlock the padlock to make changes)

Set your Mac to automatically log in during startup - Apple ...

To put in all in perspective, ref: Login password requested twice
