I’ve only had my AirPods Pro for a bit over a month and my right AirPod has a rattling noise which originally was just when I coughed or cleared my throat and now it’s litterally every slight move it rattles. I use them primarily at the gym and it is the most annoying experience. I have disconnected my AirPods and re set them up but it’s still occurring. I don’t have the money for new ones as I’m about to start University is this something that Apple can fix?
I just experienced the same issue with my Airpod Pros too. I purchased mine in November of 2019, and they started rattling about 1 month ago.

I made an appointment with my local Apple store (appointments only right now), and they confirmed that not all of the headphones manufactured prior to that date that are experiencing this issue are covered.
They look it up based on the serial number and also run it through a diagnostic machine to determine what issues exist.
The link provided by MrBill3 shows it can be $89 per earbud if not covered or $0 if covered.
I thought the only issue with mine was rattling in one earbud only, however it ended up being present in both plus a loss of bass and mid-range sound in both as well. Turns out I was missing out on a lot of sound and there was nothing I could do to fix it (hard reset, un-pair, and re-pair, etc).
Fortunately, both of mine were covered! It's worth having them look at it so you can figure out your options.
I got my replacemrnt from Apple in less than like 24 hours and was Super impressed. But my heart sinks when I read that the problem will happen again as some have had 5 replacements !!! Shudder what did I get into
I contacted apple support and they had me "forget" them in bluetooth settings and re-set them up. This made the static noise go away. This seems to suggest some kind of software issue rather than hardware. I have only just applied the solution we will. have to see if the sound comes back.
Yes, there is a hold fee equal to the amount of replacing a pod. They remove that hold quickly after you ship the damaged one back. Return shipping is included in the process, no cost to you. It is way better than going to an Apple store.

You can program the long press in settings, to also allow to switch off (NC).
I just got my replacement earlier this week (left earpiece only), problem solved...
Got mine in November, the first day they were available and the issue started in Jan. Replacement was free, i don not have apple care on these.
Mine also went away when I turned off ANC and Transparency mode. 100% a technical issue and not the rubber tips.
Apple has replaced mine 3 times so far because of this issue. I’m worried what will happen once the warranty expires. There’s clearly something wrong.
Same issue apple finally fixed something of mine that broke within warranty and sent a new one for free
I had the Apple Support call me. Thankfully, simple resetting helped solving this issue for me. You go into your phone's bluetooth setup and Forget the device and try reconnect. It solved it for me.
Try moistening the ear piece before insertion into the ear. This worked for me. It seemed the microphone was picking up a noise when they were dry.
TBH, I have the same problem too. The rattling noises happen when my ears move, even a little. I recommend cleaning the ear tips. If that doesn't work, then I recommend getting replacement tips. But all in all, its still going to be a problem with my experience. You can do these procedures, but in a matter of time the problem will happen again, just like how it did with mine, and I am on my like 5th replacement. Some things you just can't fix. Sorry bro.
This is an ongoing problem. I had the same problem. Got a replacement from Apple after some very long support calls. Now the replacement bud is having the same problem. I won’t buy new pods every second month and Apple support is extremely slow and time consuming. Might just find a better brand of pods.
I’ve now changed 3 earbuds already, all with the same rattling sound issue. Just noticed the 4th one has the same issue.
The problem not occurring when anc/transparency is switched off actually makes a lot of sense. I think the problem is the microphone. After a short while the adhesive let’s go or something. I notices light tilts to sides gives a different experience. One result with no problem, other like you a resting a microphone trembling sheet or something.
i’ve expressed my concerns towards Apple, especially if you’re out of warranty. They didn’t want to go in to detail about hypothetical problems which could occur. Most problems could be solved with a firmware update. I’ve told the Apple employee firmware doesn’t solve hardware issues. But he clearly wanted to end the discussion, which is a bit rude in my opinion.
