AirPods Pro Rattling Noise

I’ve only had my AirPods Pro for a bit over a month and my right AirPod has a rattling noise which originally was just when I coughed or cleared my throat and now it’s litterally every slight move it rattles. I use them primarily at the gym and it is the most annoying experience. I have disconnected my AirPods and re set them up but it’s still occurring. I don’t have the money for new ones as I’m about to start University is this something that Apple can fix?

I just experienced the same issue with my Airpod Pros too. I purchased mine in November of 2019, and they started rattling about 1 month ago.

Apple mentions that some of them manufactured prior to October of 2020 can experience this issue: https://support.apple.com/airpods-pro-service-program-sound-issues

I made an appointment with my local Apple store (appointments only right now), and they confirmed that not all of the headphones manufactured prior to that date that are experiencing this issue are covered.

They look it up based on the serial number and also run it through a diagnostic machine to determine what issues exist.

The link provided by MrBill3 shows it can be $89 per earbud if not covered or $0 if covered.

I thought the only issue with mine was rattling in one earbud only, however it ended up being present in both plus a loss of bass and mid-range sound in both as well. Turns out I was missing out on a lot of sound and there was nothing I could do to fix it (hard reset, un-pair, and re-pair, etc).

Fortunately, both of mine were covered! It's worth having them look at it so you can figure out your options.

My left AirPod just started doing this too. Chat support is sending me replacement ear tips, but I don't think it will make a difference as I swapped out tips already, but I will play along.

After reading these comments I tried turning off ANC and transparency and the rattling did go away, so agree with others that this is a technical issue of some kind that Apple needs to sort out.

That’s great. After reading these treads I realized that I was not the only one experiencing this and gave Apple another call. They are sending a new ear piece and they also did the $98 hold for me as well. They didn’t offer this the first time but I’m great full they are coving this at no charge! Hopefully this resolves the issue :).

Yeah, it's pretty frustrating to say the least. I'm about to go through my second round of requesting replacements for the rattling. Like I've mentioned before, it's cheaper for apple to replace the defective airpods than find and fix the manufacturing defect. It really sucks.

Once that Warranty expires, if you don't have AppleCare, you're pretty screwed. I wonder if they'll charge the $29 or whatever once you have to use apple care to replace the rattling buds?

I want to point out to people not using their airpod pros. Turn the noise canceling to the off position and they're still usable (transparency and noise canceling are what use the external microphone). Terrible solution, but will give some extra life out of them. My issue started on the right, got that replaced a month later had to get the left replaced and now 2 months later the right is slightly starting to have the rattle again. Going to wait until closer to warranty time to get them replaced again. Hopefully by then the issue is resolved. I agree terrible design, but even after their out of warranty they're still usable just not full featured. Not defending Apple, for $250 I expect more, but at least there's a way to get some limited use out of them.

Ditto. I had a left do that, for a replacement, then the right one did the same, so Apple replaced it as well. Now, my left is doing it again; this is the third time! I will go back to the Apple store (if they’re even open right now) and see what the heck is going on. I use them on the elliptical, so they get sweaty; could this be the problem? It started with the long “e” sound, only on speech, but now the “a” too and during playback as well as speech.
