AirPods Pro Rattling Noise

I’ve only had my AirPods Pro for a bit over a month and my right AirPod has a rattling noise which originally was just when I coughed or cleared my throat and now it’s litterally every slight move it rattles. I use them primarily at the gym and it is the most annoying experience. I have disconnected my AirPods and re set them up but it’s still occurring. I don’t have the money for new ones as I’m about to start University is this something that Apple can fix?

Yes, I am experiencing the same issue too, it originally started with my right Airpod, I got that replaced with their DIY service but now recently it has started with my left one too. Songs with heavy bass or when running, it seems to very noticeable, One thing I’ve noticed, I don’t know if it’s the same with everyone else but when the AirPods are on the “OFF” position it’s not noticeable at all which I find very strange.

My left AirPod just started doing this too. Chat support is sending me replacement ear tips, but I don't think it will make a difference as I swapped out tips already, but I will play along.

After reading these comments I tried turning off ANC and transparency and the rattling did go away, so agree with others that this is a technical issue of some kind that Apple needs to sort out.

To be precise its a Software/Firmware issue. If it was a hardware problem you would experience the rattling/distortion noise also with ANC/Transparency turned off.

Support Manager in Germany told me its a problem with the Sound improvement algorithm. My problems always got worse after switching the connection to another device. Today i connected the AirPods pro with my apple watch and since then i have been experiencing increased problems on my right AirPods pro.

My left AirPods pro started to rattle after i switched the connection from Apple TV to the Iphone.

So my guess is that at least one trigger for these issues is the switch/establishing of the bluetooth connection.

Can anyone confirm my theory from his/her own experience? Does Apple support read our lines???????

I had the same thing happen. After about 2.5 months of use. First in the right ear when on a call (have a low voice), then during low tones in music (bass, deep strings,) then just all the time. Took it to an Apple Store and they replaced the right pod for free. Two weeks sound was great... now the left one is starting to do it. If I turn both noise canceling and transparency off it reduces the buzz about 70%. But this is clearly a hardware issue with the build quality of some of these AirPods. Gonna see if Apple will do the same for the left one. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Apple swapped out both of mine via FedEx and it was very quick and convenient, so that's a positive for me.

That said, one thing I noticed while troubleshooting my issue was that at some point regardless of the size of ear tips I used, the fit test failed once I started having this issue.

Once I got the replacement AirPods Pro and ran through the initial setup process, the fit test passed every time. I ran the fit test with all three ear tip sizes, all passed for me. If I run the test with no ear tips installed on the replacement AirPods, the test fails as would be expected.

Hope this helps others with troubleshooting and Apple in identifying this issue and resolving it going forward.

Call the customer service and they will set it up everything about your shipping info. Take note you must return the old damage earpods upon receiving the new one.. Apple has a free label return that comes in the box and you must provide debit/credit to hold your payment (just in case you refused to send the old one, they will charge you for regular price) and get a full refund when apple confirmed that they received the old one.

Ditto. I had a left do that, for a replacement, then the right one did the same, so Apple replaced it as well. Now, my left is doing it again; this is the third time! I will go back to the Apple store (if they’re even open right now) and see what the heck is going on. I use them on the elliptical, so they get sweaty; could this be the problem? It started with the long “e” sound, only on speech, but now the “a” too and during playback as well as speech.

My left ear rattles when I clear my throat. I was able to get rid of the rattle (somewhat) when I swapped the ear plug tips, but of course that is not a solution, needing to switch to a different ear tip size that does not fit my ear. I just chatted with Apple support online, and I paid the $98.00, but that money is being used as a hold on my credit card because they are sending me a new pair and they want to make sure I send my old (under warranty) pair back in to them. When they receive my old air pods, they will release that hold on my credit card and it won't cost me anything.

That’s great. After reading these treads I realized that I was not the only one experiencing this and gave Apple another call. They are sending a new ear piece and they also did the $98 hold for me as well. They didn’t offer this the first time but I’m great full they are coving this at no charge! Hopefully this resolves the issue :).

This has happened to me twice on the left and right Airpod Pro and now its happening AGAIN on my left. Getting really really frustrated. Might have to change to the Beats Solo Pro or something because my situation is just ridiculous. Not Impressed Apple.

I too have that unmistakable rattling sound in my right EarPod. I made an appointment with the closest Apple store and they replace the single EarPod post haste. They had ample supply of single left and right replacements. With that said now my left EarPod is rattling. Unfortunately the the left EarPod malfunctioned post the Covid 19 shutdown.
