Scrolling Lag in Apple Music

Plain and simple, who else is experiencing scrolling lag in the Music app for Mac and has anybody a fix for it? For me personally this has been present in earlier versions of then iTunes as well and I really hoped for Apple to finally fix this with macOS 10.15 as it is an issue present since 2010, but to no avail.

Currently I am all-in on Music, with the exception of one song I added manually to my library and one song downloaded to my library I only stream music.

Changing the appearance of the library in any way doesn't help, logging out of iCloud and back in neither. However, scrolling through the library in, hum, "not-full-screen-mode" reduces the lag significantly, although it is still very present.

Does anybody have any other suggestions?

Hey there Mr. Unko,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand you’re experiencing some performance issues with Music on your Mac. I’ll be happy to help with this.

To verify, is it only in the Music app you’re experiencing any issues? If so, see if this occurs in safe boot or a new user account to isolate and possibly resolve this issue:

Also, when you see these issues occur, check Activity Monitor for any unexpected process’ running when this occurs:

You may also want to run First Aid in recovery as well:

Let me know if this helps.

Hey there Mr. Unko,

Thanks for going through those steps. It sounds like the issue is system wide and not just happening with your use account. Next, reinstall macOS using the steps from the following link. While this should retain your user settings and files, it’s always a good idea to make a backup before doing this:

Reinstall macOS

If the issue continues after this, reach out to iTunes Store Support using the following link to continue to look into this with you:

Cheers.

Hey Sarah,

first of all, thank you for your reply; yes, this issue is unique to the Music app and it obviously occurs in Safe Mode as well, as in Safe Mode all animations are stripped to the bare minimum, considering that they don't run with 60 fps as they nominally would or should. And that is the point, the Music app is the only one where the scrolling animation is locked to 30 fps, which is just painful to work with if the rest of the system runs at 60, with exceptions, like the mouse cursor. Therefore, yes, this issue does persist when using the Music app in another user account; the only process that has any sort of significance to it while the Music app is running/while scrolling through the songs section, is WindowServer, so nothing special there. I regularly repair my drives in Recovery Mode, so that isn't the cause of the problem either.

Maybe I have to rephrase my question, as I actually only just noticed the apparent 30 fps lock; why is this and how do you get around it?
