Screen Time does not block blood/gore/nudity in Apple Music Videos on iOS
I'm a parent of four. My 8 year-old boy has an iPod Touch with Screen Time restrictions. The Content & Privacy Restrictions on his device are set as follows:
However, despite these strict restrictions, I have found him on multiple occasions watching grossly inappropriate content through the Music Videos section of Apple Music app on his iPod Touch (6th Gen).
He's figured out a way to seemingly exploit a loophole within the Music App, which only blocks music videos with explicit lyrics. Yet there seem to be countless music videos with content not suitable for children that Apple isn't rating or blocking.
What I've found even more troublesome is the inability to simply disable Music Videos entirely within the Apple Music app.
For the past few nights he's been wetting his bed, which he hasn't done in over three years, and waking up with nightmares.
To my surprise, this is what I've found on his iPod Touch in the morning:
These screenshots are from a music video "The Devil In I" by Slipknot. There is footage of people being attacked by dogs, people cutting their faces, and men in a mask attacking and stabbing another person in the chest. That is but one example.
For all the press that Apple is giving its Screen Time restrictions, this is a gross oversight and I'm surprised that despite many threads being raised about this very issues previously, Apple is turning a blind eye.
I understand that it's my job as a parent to monitor my child's activities on their device, and I do my best with the tools that Apple is marketing as effective. Yet clearly there are loopholes which need to be addressed.
Either rate the music videos, or allow us (the parents) the ability to disable music videos entirely within the Apple Music app.
Thank you.
