Google Account Doesn't Work After Mojave Upgrade

I knew I'd regret upgrading. Yeah, anyway, after upgrading to Mojave my Google email stopped working. I waited a few days with hopes that'd clear up on its own. It did not. Periodically, I get a message (upper righthand corner) informing me I need to enter the Google password. Alright. So, one day, I entertain that idea, followed through steps only be left with a blank Safari screen (that is to say, no place to enter the password).

1) The Google password was working absolutely fine before upgrading to Mojave.

2) All my other email accounts work fine before and after transitioning to Mojave.

3) I'm pestered to enter the Google password - but never provided with a field to enter a password.

As near as I can tell this is all Apple software (Apple Mail is what I use for gmail) - I'll try to screen capture the next time the annoying messages pop up again.

I wonder if it's my VPN preventing something from working.

It was my VPN - or appeared to be. Shutting off VPN allowed Safari to continue to the Google site which then allowed me to enter my password. In addition to using gmail I've got a decade worth of Google contacts that are sync'd with Apple contacts.
