Can't enable safari extensions

I am on the latest version of MacOS and Safari and I am unable to click the checkmark to enable Safari extensions. However, I am able to click disable on an extension. Any ideas?

Mac mini, macOS 10.15

Yes. Quit any apps that put overlays on screen, such as F.lux or any other apps that augment system wide display. That, or restart in Safe Mode (with shift down) and make your changes in the Safari Preferences.

Uninstalled LittleSnitch from Safe Mode successfully. Uninstalled iStat Menus, Malwarebytes, and 1Password. No change.

Reset Safari, cleared caches. No change. I removed the extensions and tried adding them back one-by-one. No change. Reset keychain. No change. (Restarted between each of these above steps.)

Like some of the other users, I was able to deselect the extensions but just not re-enable them.

I'm baffled.

I just reinstalled macOS to see what would happen but it's the same thing. I set up the startup items/sequence on the second user account to be the same as my account, but Safari in the second user account is fine. I don't know where exactly the difference lies, since it's obviously something with my user account. Ugh.

One thing that is not the same for both is Keychain, but I reset my Keychain and it didn't help.

I don't think anything will work with this bug. I have some of the extensions working on Catalina 15.3

When I updated to 15.4 , safari has become slower when launching, and extensions can't be enabled anymore.

I unfortunately disabled dark reader extension, when I couldn't adjust its setting ( every option was dimmed ), I couldn't re-enable it again. And now I'm stuck with light mode, which soon will make me blind. Browsing experience like that can't be fun anymore and it's harmful for eyes. I don't understand, why Apple can't have DarkMode on websites as default for Safari. We don't need extension for a primary and very important feature like this one.

Plus why some Catalina software Updates seem like a Beta version. 15.0 , 15.1 , and now 15.4 is the slowest and the worse. I have a high-end model MacBook Pro 15" from 2018. And to experience this is not fun.

I hope Apple check this community and take this feedback ( complain ) seriously .

Same by me. MacBook Pro & Catalina, Safari Up to Date- no one Extension can be activated. I can click a thousand times on it and nothing happen. Remove them ist fine as well. Its really sad, that my parrot OS working natively on Macbook better, then Mac OS :/ Ist not just one Issue with Catalina. The same with Temperatures. If I start Firefox- everything cold and Battery at last 6h. With Safari? Hot in few Minutes and Battery get down.

I don't like Android, because pur Android to find is difficult. You get just some overworked Scrap from another Developers. Just bugs, unsafe and nothing really working. I get unfortunately the same Feeling on my MacOS in last few Month.

No, unfortunately I tried everything ... re-installed macOS, safe mode, shutdown every app.... nothing worked... I still haven't being able to figure it out for my system at least. In safeboot, they call it now, nothing is running, I guess I'll just have to wait till the BigSur comes along and see if that fixes it.

The only another option I haven't tried is doing a clean install and then restore through time machine, but that might restore my problem as well. LOL

Thanks for your swift replies :)

I also have tried safe mode all the other possible solutions and continue to get the "Safari detected an app or service interfering with clicking To protect your privacy and security, this extension was not turned on. After quitting the app or service, you can try to turn on this extension again" message.

Thinking it is a process native to safari that is blocking it. I will let you know if I have any luck. Best K.
