HomeKit SecureVideo is not enabled and motion is not detected on Logitech Circle 2

Hi!

I have the following setup:

  • Logitech Circle 2 camera upgraded to Secure Video, connected to WiFi
  • iPad 2019 with iOS 13.3 used as a home hub, connected to the same WiFi
  • 200GB iCloud storage plan
  • 250 Gbps downlink / 25 Gbps uplink WiFi

Looks like all the conditions from this list are met and Secure Video should be recorded. However I see that no motion is detected and nothing is recorded.

Is there a way to debug HomeKit? It doesn't seem to have any diagnostic information to understand what's going wrong.

After doing hard reset on the camera it finally started working for me: videos are recorded, motion is detected, and notifications are sent! Not sure why it worked, I see that the software version is the same and I haven't really changed anything before/after resetting it, somehow it fixed itself. Would be nice to have status somewhere deep in settings to understand what's going on with the device.

Hello, dmitryvit.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

From what I've read is that you're not being able to record and the motion detection isn't working. I'd like to help. It's good that you've already confirmed the requirements have been met. Just to confirm, are you able to live stream with the cameras and have you checked the settings on each camera?

According to Logitech's FAQ, the cameras will only record when motion is detected. With that being said using wireless set up, the motion detection works differently than the wired setup. Take a look at this article: When does Circle 2 start recording?

"Wire-Free Cameras

While attached to a battery and in battery optimization mode, Circle 2 operates differently. The camera uses the low power motion sensor (a passive infrared sensor or PIR sensor) to detect activity in its field of view. Similar sensors are used on motion-activated night lights.

Using the low power motion sensor allows the camera to keep the video sensor, which may drain the battery, in sleep mode. When the low power sensor detects motion, the video sensor wakes up, which triggers recording. Recordings occur in 10, 30 or 60-second intervals before the video sensor goes back to the sleep mode.

If the camera is already awake (e.g. if you are watching the live stream), the camera will automatically use the video sensor to determine relevant motion and manage recordings without needing to use the low power sensor first.

You can adjust the sensitivity of the low power motion sensor to ensure you are capturing the moments that are relevant to you. From the Settings menu, tap More Settings to edit the Motion Sensitivity.

NOTE: If you're using the Circle 2 Wired camera or placing the camera on the Window and Plug mounts, motion detection will work through glass. If you're using the Wire-Free camera, it relies on a low-power sensor for motion detection that doesn't work through glass".

To answer your other question, there isn't a way to debug the HomeKit. You may need to contact Logitech support for further help.

Let me know if this helps.

Best regards.

Hi brenden dv,

Thanks for the answer!

Yes, I'm able to livestream the camera, as well as hear the sound and speak through it.

I forgot to mention it in the post, my camera is wired, and hangs right in the room, not behind a glass. Before upgrading to Secure Video it used to detect motion and record quite well in their app, now motion sensor doesn't seem to work in the Home app I don't see any video recorded.

From answers I found in a Logitech support thread, I guess, reverting the camera back to the original setup, setting it to recording and then upgrading to Secure Video helps to some people, however their official answer is that it won't help, but I'll try this option.

I was wondering, maybe it's because I'm using an iPad as a home hub, does it support everything the same way as Apple TV or maybe there are limitations?
