Mixing/Bouncing

Hi All,

When I bounce my music and vocals together, for some reason the music is very far back - the final piece doesn't sound even.

I took off the plug-in "Limiter" on the vocals but then the vocals sounded 'in the mud'.

Any advise?

Thanking you in advance!

The bounce screenshot has PCM highlighted, but you are bouncing to MP3 (the blue tick), so you should highlight that so we can see what settings you have there.

Also, your mix is too simple, everything goes directly to the stereo out. You should route similar tracks to auxes (submixes), so you can submix them there and have more control over the coherence of the various elements.

Also, are all those plugins actually doing something? That is an awful lot of pitch correction, are you actually using that? Flex Pitch is a better approach for that.

You may need to watch some tutorial video's on how to mix, to get a better grasp of that process. The (paid) videos by Macprovideo are a good point to start. (Im am not affiliated with them, other pro video sites are available) but I would start with pro video makers, there are just too many amateur badmixhabit instilling YT tutorial video's out there.

also, this is a great site to get solid advice, the website owned and run by the writer of the official (used by Apple to train for Logic Pro X certification) Logic Pro book, David Nahmani:

Mixing is not something that can be learned quickly in a day or a week, but once you dive into it using these resources you will improve quickly.

Yes economy of means. Related to that is how limitation forces one to be creative.

The most common error I've found from users mixing in the box (besides hundred of plugins) is too much bass, that in combination with a hard limiter. on the master bus and people wonder why thier mix isn't "loud" enough.

OK, so I have tweaked your mix: disabled all unused plugins (housekeeping) and made four mix subgroups (DRUBA) (drums and bass) (other) INSTRUMENTS, harmony vocals (BVOC) and all vocals. I also turned down the delay (which was at 100 % on some tracks - not good for vocals) and I turned down the reverb on the vocals, I believe they now stand out better. I also panned the harmony vocals slightly left and right, so they separate more from the lead vocal.

I am unfamiliar with this kind of music (what language is that?), so I am not sure what kind of sound you are going for, so I tried to keep the sound more o less as you already made it, no "westernisation". This was only about 30 minutes of tweaking, no doubt it could improve even more, but it is a start for you. Hope you like it.

Wow. If there was a button for the best post of the year I would have clicked on it!

It is amazing how the powerful versatility of modern DAWs leads beginners to this situation. I know you suggested YouTube training videos. I think nothing beats books written by recordists from the old school: Linear tape editing. This teach you economy of means.

Be creative yes, and focus on the essential. This remember me of when I was editing audio on Panasonic video tape hardware and... my astonishment when the studio gave me access to - I'm not sure exactly - an Amiga to do some in the box fine proofing.

Years before... in a basement... guitar and drums... amazing results with only a four tracks recorder and appropriate mic placement.

OK. Enough with old timer stuff 😉.

I'm back... From I personal twist if you let me.

I'm just back from a "Charity Dinner Concert" for the small production company I'm volunteering for. http://bopbop.ca/en/.

Their last production : https://lachapelle.org/en/schedule/Please-Thrill-Me from Sean Nicholas Savage just amazes me how they can use advance technology in conjonction with musical creativity. All live scripted and interactive production level mixing. There is hope...

Whe are from Montréal ... To be in NYC and beyond later this year!

Sorry for the advertising tone 😉.
