Keyboard/trackpad not working on resume from hibernate in Windows 10 (Macbook Air 2019)

Hey guys,

I'm running Windows 10 1909 on a 2019 Macbook Air. I've been using Bootcamp on Macbook Airs for years and have never encountered a problem like this before.

When I resume the computer from Hibernate (but not from sleep), mouse and keyboard inputs will not work. The only thing I see is my wallpaper and a bunch of 'USB Device Not Recognized' notifications sliding in from the right. I've searched and searched but can't find anyone who has a similar problem.

Has anyone got any ideas about what might be causing this? Generally it's after the computer's been asleep for a long time (I put it to sleep, and when I wake it, I get the Windows logo and it takes time to resume - no instant on, and then the messages about 'USB Device Not Recognized' start rolling in).

If anyone's got any ideas I'd love to hear them. Thanks for reading

Hi there,

Device manager has these HIDs listed:

  • Apple Keyboard Internal USB
  • Apple Multi-Touch
  • 3x HID-Compliant Consumer Control Device
  • HID-compliant Device
  • 5x HID-Compliant Vendor Defined Device
  • 5x USB Input Device

These devices do not change on hardware rescan. All input devices work when I have the Mac sleep as opposed to Hibernate.

Hope this info helps!

Yeah I sure do - I use sleep most of the time.

For any people who Google this issue, I remedied my Macbook Air hibernating during sleep (and all of the hardware dying) by going to Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Change Plan Settings - Change Advanced Settings - Sleep - 'Hibernate After' and changing that value to 1800 minutes.

Seems like the default value (180 minutes) meant Sleep would transition to Hibernate overnight, and then when I'd go to wake up the Macbook Air, the issue illustrated by LonerT would happen.

So for now (until there's a workaround found), I'll just use Sleep and Shut Down. It's weird though, I was able to use Hibernate successfully with my 2011 13 inch Macbook Air and my 2015 13 inch Macbook Air, both of which I used Bootcamp on almost exclusively.

Not sure what's changed, but with the current crop of Macbook Airs, Hibernate is a no go (and for some reason battery life on Windows is a lot worse - maybe the retina display/maybe Windows not being given system level access to moderate the GPU at the hardware level, I have no idea)
