Apple Music is SO SLOW

Me too, my mac is fine apart from APPLE MUSIC. iTunes worked fine. I use it to play MP3s that are stored locally on my macbook. Now APPLE MUSIC takes forever to load, spinning beach ball for every track, it is unusable. I have upgraded to Big Sur with no obvious improvement. Sadly I am going to have to migrate to another platform.

It is interesting to read that streaming is also slow, I had thought that perhaps APPLE were trying to persuade MP3 users to switch to streaming. Does anyone know if this is like to get fixed or if my time would be better used switching to another program?

I just upgraded from a 2009 MacBook with iTunes, no lag when scrolling through my albums.

Brand new MacBook M1, noticeable lag when scrolling albums.

Not to mention the more limited feature set of Apple Music app.

Apple, pull your head in.

I've got the same issue as well. Late 2019 27" iMac, switched to Catalina and lost iTunes, now I have to deal with this monstrosity that is Music. Slow slow loading times and the creation of huge numbers of duplicate playlists, none of which I can delete without causing my computer to refuse to synch with my iPhone.

I hoped that installing Big Sur would clear up the problem, but it's still there. Just as bad.

Same problem here, and across all my Apple devices: iPhone 11 Pro, Apple TV and MacBook Pro.

In general content loads slowly when switching between sections For You, Browse, Radio etc.. (text, artworks and music). Sometimes it takes good 15 to 30 seconds for a song to start and sometimes when skipping songs fast application crashes.

It feels like Apple Music works over 56kbps telephone modem connection :), yet my internet connection is over 100MBits....

This is actually in general problem with all Apple services related products including using iCloud (e-mail, photos, contacts) via web browser, and News+ also across all devices... content simply loads too slowly.

In contrast Spotify loads all the content quickly and everything works seamlessly. Skipping songs does not result in buffering. Next song starts immediately.

Same here, I got a 2019 iMac everything runs oke but the Apple Music app is so bad.

Hi, same problem here, across all my devices (Macbook pro, iPhone 11 Pro, home PC, work PC). It does not matter if I access Apple Music via dedicated app on each platform or through new music.apple.com web player.

There is a common theme: songs don't start playing immediately, there is a frequent delay of few seconds, UI is generally very laggy, takes few seconds to respond to clicks and refresh screens/menus, and then few more to load all the content (artwork, playlist, etc..). I frequently see spinning loading circle... and if I scrub and skip songs frequently it tends to crash (again on all devices and platforms).

It's just very very slow.

Spotify in a web player is super snappy, responsive and fast compared to Apple Music running on my Mac or via iOS App. I don't understand why Apple can't match performance of other typical web services.....

I live in Europe, and i have experienced this problem too. it does not matter if i use fast pc or iPhone 11 Pro Max, problem still is noticable. every time i choose song or radio episode it take few seconds, maybe 15 to load, in comparition Youtube, Spotify, Soundcloud load instantly. It's annoying because Apple Music is premium service with monthly fee.

I wish i agreed with you on Spotify. I moved to Apple because the speed and unreliability of Spotify was driving me nuts. Sad to say Apple have many similar issues. In working out why Spotify was so slow I put a network monitor on my computer and was amazed at how often Spotify constantly connects out to numerous international servers and sucks up my bandwidth. It was like a 90s movie about some spy satellite network!

Since the last update my apple music on iPhone has been slow as **** too. Whenever I tap on a playlist/album it stays loading all tracks, regardless of the amount, for a solid ten seconds or more. I don't know why.

Almost a year later and this is still an issue. I just signed up for a 3 month trial and im using the browser veriosn of apple music. Its so terribly slow. 30 seconds to just open the site, then another 30 to play a song, searching and other actions are painfully slow.

Yeah I have this same concern with Apple Music. I'm running maOS Catalina on good hardware over a solid internet connection.

The UI of Apple Music on desktop isn't very snappy compared to Spotify. It's pretty annoying. Even doing a basic side-by-side with Spotify shows that Apple Music is the slower one. For example artist results are loaded by Spotify faster than Apple Music. The iOS version of Apple Music has always been solid for me, but not on desktop.

Same issue with me. Sooooooooo sloooowwwww on my iPhone and constantly refuses to load via sonos as well.

I just moved to Apple Music from Spotify as I’m an apple fan but seriously making me reconsider this move!!! Wtf!!!!

Same here, no patches or fixes till now. If apple really wanted that users use apple music they would fix it. Seems we have the next bad platform beside the iTunes client ... Maybe you guys should finally hop on the train and use Kubernetes ...

Yes it's really slow. Platform doesn't matter. In android? sloww.. mac? sloww. iphone?!? SLOW

This is probably a server side problem and it's horrible, Apple should fix this immediately. Otherwise we will start using alternatives :/

I have a massive library (106k tracks). Just upgraded from Mojave to Catalina and immediately met this problem - very, very , very slow or no scrolling when using the Songs view. I had about 20 playlists setup for various devices and also to export .csv listings of album + artist for the many genres I use to produce database listings. I deleted all these playlists (as they are very easily regenerated when I need them again) and BINGO! the music App on Catalina now works as fast as iTunes on Mojave did!
