Logic Pro X keeps crashing after Catalina update

Every time I delete a track on Logic Pro X the whole thing crashes and I have to force quit and reopen. How can I fix this/when will they update the app or the OS?

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.12

The important part is at 2:05 basically all you have to do is open a project click File -> Save As... -> Select "Folder" instead of "Package" -> then Save. After this I was finally able to delete tracks and audio files without Logic crashing.

Hope this helps!

I found in the following article for focusrite users but it seems like it would apply to anyone using an audio interface or any peripherals with drivers.

Catalina requires the drivers to be permissioned — even if they were in use before, so it’s best to reinstall and follow directions in the article.

I had a little project going today that crashed a few times before this process and when I left it alone for an hour after the process, I found it stable — project right where I left it behind the lock screen.

Early to say it’s solved but that hasn’t been the case in a long time — usually return to a restarted iMac and a crash log.

Robert,

There are a few things you could try to fix this problem. First, if you are adjusting the volume while the track is playing try pausing the track before adjusting the volume to prevent it from crashing. Sometimes adjusting the volume while it's playing will overload it.

Another thing you could try is once you have the project open with the imported mp3, try creating a brand new audio track then drag the audio into that new audio track. Sometimes the default audio track Logic creates is corrupt. Also, try creating a completely new project in Logic and start from scratch. Possibly the project itself is corrupt.

Another thing you could try is once you have the mp3 imported in to Logic, go to File -> Bounce -> Track in Place. This will bounce the audio and create a new track and new audio file within Logic so if the reason for the crash has something to do with Logic not being able to read the audio file you imported it will create a duplicate of the audio compatible with Logic.

I would also try connecting your interface and adjusting the input/output from the default setting and adjusting the I/O Buffer Size to 256 or 512 or even 1048 to see if that helps. Sometimes older Mac's require a larger buffer size to prevent the software from crashing. You can also adjust many of the playback settings in this same menu page so try adjusting those a bit to see if any of those are causing the problem. This menu page can be accessed under Preferences -> Audio.

The only other thing I can currently think of is just restarting your computer and once it reboots have Logic as the only application running to allow it to run faster.

I have been using Logic Pro for several years now and bugs like this tend to pop up sometimes and personally I've found that just troubleshooting a variety of different things will eventually lead to a solution.

Hope this helps!

I never had an issue with Logic and I just updated to Catalina and it crashed on me 6 times last night doing basic editing where I had to force quit. Seems there’s some stability issue that was overlooked with the new OS. Hopefully this can get resolved asap, though this happening during a time when I actually have more time to spend on Logic is really frustrating

I am also on a late 2013 iMac with Catalina and freshly updated Logic. The whole machine is running slow now, but I can't even play a song in Logic without the spinning wheel or notice saying Disk Is Too Slow Or System Overload. It happens after about one second, if it starts playing at all. I have about 200GB available on my hard drive, and all was fine until I updated Logic, which happened after Catalina arrived two days ago. What a mess. Even quitting and re-loading does not help. But it takes forever. I'm professional, and trying to mix an album, this is ridiculous, my old Atari was faster than this.

Can anyone help?? I have a 2019 MacBook Pro with tons and tons of space, already freed up more RAM, have most recent Mac update and most recent Logic Pro X update, my file had one drum track, and every time i try to do ANYTHING in it, it freezes and I have to force quit...I'm not a professional I don't have any fancy stuff or custom settings it's literally bare bones with just one drum track and it freezes and has been doing this for weeks. I uninstalled and re-installed Logic, what else can I do??
