Issues upgrading from Sierra to Catalina

I have tried to download Catalina from the Mac App Store multiple times now. I click download and it downloads until it reaches the end of the download and its like nothing happened. The screen returns to the download page with the button again to download. There is no file in the downloads or applications tab of finder. I cleared up space and have about 15gb storage, so I don't think the storage is an issue. Please help!

You do not say what exact Mac /model /year /size /retina /touchbar is this

or

what exact macOS Sierra you are currently running?

Verify your tech specs: macOS Catalina - Technical Specifications - Apple Support

https://support.apple.com/kb/SP803?locale=en_US

System requirements macOS 10.15 Catalina

macOS Catalina will run on all Macintosh computers that supported Mojave:

MacBook: Early 2015 or newer

MacBook Air: Mid 2012 or newer

MacBook Pro: Mid 2012 or newer

Mac Mini: Late 2012 or newer

iMac: Late 2012 or newer

iMac Pro

Mac Pro: Late 2013 or newer; Mid 2010 or Mid 2012 if upgraded with a recommended Metal-capable GPU

------------------------------------------

15GB is not much free storage space..

Did you try downloading from a SafeBoot—Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc. Login and try again your download.

If no luck try stair stepping up with High Sierra first:
