iOS update issues on my iPhone 7 Plus

I updated the new iOS to 13.4 now when I try to make a phone call I can’t hear anything and vice versa. The speaker part on the phoned is greyed out, everything else on my phone works my phone will ring, speakers work, etc.

theres nothing in my settings that will allow me to delete the updated version. I’ve restarted it to no avail. I don’t wait to reset to factory settings. Is anyone else having this issue and is Apple doing anything to resolve this? Like I said this happened after the update so I know that’s what’s causing this.

i have been doing research and research and ....

Apple support might be right. It does look like a hardware issue. iphone 7 and iphone 7+ do have a structure issue where the phone can bend under stress. I spent hours with Apple support and ATT support to understand the issue. All the research pointed to IC chip failure & bending iphone 7.

In my case, i was using a case with a magnet to stick to my car dash and stuffing a credit card at times. Could have resulted in iphone bend in micro millies.

All I did was remove the case; turn off the phone; try to bend it backwards with very little pressure; restart it. Voila...! it works like a charm. Definitely looks like a loose solder on the IC chip. Dont know how long it will work.. intend to re-solder the chip if happens again.

Why it failed on a software upgrade... and why it was working until an upgrade, I don't know (apple sure does..!). But it might be the same issue if Apple provides an upgrade or allows up to roll back to 13.5

It might not work for everyone considering how much stress you put on your phone.

If it happens again it will be different. There is no way that a software update can make a soldered connection disconnect from a logic board. What does happen is because where the Audio IC is placed on the logic board if the phone is dropped or is stressed by putting it in your back pocket and sitting on it then the connection points can wear out and break.

The problem was already there but when the majority update was made the new iOS tries to test various components and got a failure of some type from the Audio IC. Yes, everyone says that but even without a major blow it can happen and there is no way that software can direct a solder joint to break. Not physically possible. The only way if could happen is if it heated the phone so hot it actually melted the solder. Your phone would not survive such heat.

There isn’t a way to revert to a previous iOS version. Restoring would be the next step to take. If that doesn’t resolve this, reach out to Apple Support so they can continue to look into this with you.

We need to keep posting the Audio ic hardware issue with a picture if everyone post a picture and ask apple to own up to their own problem they should not be allowed to sell a defective apple device iphone 7 iphone 7 plus have a known hardware defect !

We would like a new iphone please APPLE ?

Apple knows about. Just keep calling and telling them you want your phone restored to the way it was before it updated the software. Or find a non Apple store who will fix it for a fraction of the cost. They told me it was a chip and the update wasn’t compatible.

I took their words that they changed the Audio IC as that was the price of change IC (~ 24.5 USD plus 4 $ of labour cost).

Currently I dare not to upgrade but frankly as experience with iPhone, if not upgrading, using third parties apps is an nightmare.

You can wait to see if iOS 14.5 helps you but as I've said before if all mics have failed and speakerphone is grayed out when you try to do a phone call then it is going to be a hardware issue.

Does it work with earphones/ear buds? Mine is also 7 plus and after the iOS update the microphones stopped working so any call requiring mic wouldn’t work. I did the factory reset and no luck.
