iOS update issues on my iPhone 7 Plus

I updated the new iOS to 13.4 now when I try to make a phone call I can’t hear anything and vice versa. The speaker part on the phoned is greyed out, everything else on my phone works my phone will ring, speakers work, etc.

theres nothing in my settings that will allow me to delete the updated version. I’ve restarted it to no avail. I don’t wait to reset to factory settings. Is anyone else having this issue and is Apple doing anything to resolve this? Like I said this happened after the update so I know that’s what’s causing this.

thank you.

I have the exact same problem!!! It just started today. I did some research and found this discussion. My phone works fine. The speaker is grayed out. It works when I plug in my earpiece and or iPods or my car. But hearing my phone is completely gone.

This is not right. It’s not a one off or anything. It’s affecting a lot of people!

Apple makes it seem like your product is inexpensive or anything. A new iPhone version comes out like every 3 months with updates all the time. Making a 1.5 year phone seem ancient.

So unhappy. I’m thinking of switching to a different phone as iPhones and their products seem to be very sketch making us rely on new products when in reality it should just be a reliable product in general!

This has recently happened to my iPhone and I’m on iOS 14.3

I can send and receive text messages. I can try and make calls but when the other person answers, I can't hear them and they can't hear me. Interestingly the option to use the phone speaker is not available.

When I use (or receive) FaceTime calls they get dropped as soon as I (or they) answer.

I can use WhatsApp fine but when I try to contact someone new, the 'invite' message fails,

I've turned it on/off a few times.

My gif gaff monthly contract has just renewed but I had lots of data etc. Left.

Switching off the mobile and using WiFi doesn't help. Every body else in the house have no problems.

So annoying!

Hi,

I had the same problem on my iPhone 7+ , now he's in service ( nothing else helped: no other firmware, no software reset). There they told me that this is a very common problem on 7&8 iPhones, the small audio chip on the motherboard is to blame for everything. I hope you have already solved your problem, and I will leave this message here for the next people who encounter this problem.

Have a nice day

As they said in your text, you could trade it in towards a new iPhone assuming there is nothing else wrong with it, if it is a 7 Plus you can get $130. Your other option would be find a 3rd party repair site that can do micro soldering. They can repair the Audio IC but you may not be able to receive Apple service on this phone in the future.

I have an iphone 7 with the same issue, it started a day after I updated to ios 14.4, now it won't connect when I make or recieve calls, facetime, or with 3rd party apps. My camera does work (not a black screen) but won't take any photos or record videos. The mic works, and I can text. Is there any new info, or at least has apple noticed this issue, or do I have to start looking for a new phone

You will find that very few people who post in a long thread bother to read any of the rest of the thread. And those who do read the thread rarely bother to post, because they already have the answer from reading the thread. It’s not you, its them, and thank you for your contributions to this thread.

For example, there is a (currently) 94 page thread about fixing a disabled iPhone, that has the solution posted 2 or more times on each page of the thread.

I have the same issues stated by many of the below. It's not a hardware issue, its an iOS upgrade issue. Good luck having Apple Tier 1 support tell you as much. Unfortunately, they have to refer to the script, ultimately having with the recommendation for many to go to the Apple store (reduced support due to COVID) and buy a new phone :)

That’s true. Only someone with experience working on microelectronics hardware, and who has the appropriate tools, can do it. That’s why the more practical advice is to arrange a repair through Apple or contact a 3rd party repair shop that has the tools and experience. KoKoNotChanel has such experience, apparently. While going to 3rd party repair would void any remaining warranty, that shouldn’t be a serious impediment. If it still has a warranty Apple will repair it for free.
